I was mousy, frightened, and helpless. I felt nervous all the time. I no longer feel this way since I have left the religion. I am even happy. Why should I return to a religion which made me seriously consider suicide?

Yes, I was told suicide would send me to hell.

I think the 'biblical god' is really misrepresented - if you are more comfortable with your own beliefs, and not following a church, by all means do so!

If you want the feeling of community that church traditionally gives, you can always check out alternate religions - Buddhism is a really nice, peaceful one, or you can try the Unitarian Universalist's, which is like a general, all-purpose religion, it's extremely liberal.

But again, if you're happier the way you are now, good! I'm happy that you've been able to break the bonds of conformity.

Religion is a custom, a form of traditions and human rules.

A relationship with God is something much deeper, much more satisfying. When we step out and accept who Jesus is and ask Him into our hearts, it is the hardest transition. Because walking with Jesus is not comfortable. No where in the bible does it say this is an easy path and test or trials don't come your way. And to be honest you will be tested and tried whether or not you still attend church and have a relationship with God. This is not to say that we don't have peace, Jesus is the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6 ). But the best answer that I can find for your question is this scripture:

-"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
John 1:1

Sorry my answer is hard hearted. I worked in the med field so long I grown immune to threats of suicide. I've found that those that want to do and the ones that talk about are usually in need of intention.
The only reason you would have to feel mousy or frightened is because you didn't study the manual, and that judgment is obvious.
Ever hear of a war between powers of darkness and principalities? Ever read about the armor of God?
God didn't call you to be a mouse. Stand on the word of God!
Go back to boot camp and pay attention this time.
God Bless!

Perfect Love casts out all fear. I wonder where your heart was at that time of your life & if perhaps you were not in a church that preached the Truth. God in Heaven loves you so very much, He only wants you to come to the saving knowledge of Christ, crucified, buried & resurrected. Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead & guide you unto all Truths. Forget religion & seek Christ out for a personal relationship. You will never be alone again, not a bed of roses, maybe a few thorns, but you never have to go through anything alone.
What a journey, with Jesus by your side & in your heart!

You don't have to return to religion, but You can still ask Jesus into your heart, thats what its really all about, then prayerfully you can find a church or cell group of your own peers where you will feel comfortable. God certainly does not want you to comit suicide, and I don't think its God that you are displeased with, I think your displeased with religion the way you experienced it. very judgmental and all, I have a suggestion if you will give church another chance, go to a non-denominational church or two, no rules about makeup, and watching TV, or other stupid things that people can come up with, Just go where they love Jesus, and where they will love you. Beleive it or not there are alot of wonderful churches out there, and alot of dead churches out there, I pray you will find the right one for you, thats where you will be blessed, and grow in you faith, Just don't give up because of a bad experience, and of course you feel better now, Thats what Satan wants, he does not want us to feel good about Jesus, or Church or anything of faith, he does not want to loose another soul, so don"t let him have yours, Please.

Here is islamic concept of God
1. Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): "He is Allâh (SWT), (the) One. The Self-Sufficient Master, (Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks) He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him. (Quran Chapter 112)
2. He is the Merciful and the Compassionate, the Guardian and the True Guide, the Just and the Supreme Lord, the Creator and the Watchful, the First and the Last, the Knowing and the Wise, the Hearing, and the Aware, the Witness and the Glorious, the Able and ' the Powerful. (Holy Quran).
3. He is the Loving and the Provider, the Generous and the Benevolent, the Rich and the Independent, the Forgiving and the Clement, the Patient and the Appreciative, the Unique and the Protector, the Judge and the Peace. (Holy Quran example). The question of Allah's (SWT) 'God' existence has preoccupied men's minds for many centuries. Those who believe in Allah (SWT) 'God' seem to agree that the limited finite human intelligence cannot prove the existence of the infinite boundless of Allah (SWT) 'God'. It can only illustrate or demonstrate his existence to the satisfaction of the curious human mind.
Those who deny Allah's (SWT) 'God' claim to rely on science, philosophy, or special theories of knowledge. Their arguments are sometimes inapplicable, sometimes irrelevant, always complex, and often incomprehensible. However, the developed mind will find its way to Allah (SWT) 'God'. Failure to find the way does not mean that there is no way. Denial of reality does not make it unreal.

Rebekkah, I am not sure what religion you followed. I follow the Lord Almighty as a Muslim and every day I sleep in peace, knowing that ultimately the Holy One, the Supreme Power is in control of all the affairs AND I have the direct means to approach him. All I have to do is to spread my good old prayer rug, and his doors for me are opened immediately, and many times I do not even have to do that, although I feel more comfortable when I have cleaned myself and mentally prepared myself to meet the Emperor of Emperor of Emperors. . my friend, and confidante!!

What more can a mere human want? You must have been raised by some weird cult where you were not connecting with the Holy of Holies in the correct manner. How can one feel like a mouse when you have such a High Friend?

Indeed, I have the Awe of knowing who He is too. I am aware of His enormous power, strength and justice which I indeed fear, as I can not even fathom the many dimensions of my actions and I know He is Just, so I fear Him, Lord knows. Yet, I can bank on His Mercy, His Compassion for mere me, who knows my limitations much better than me, who knows me better than my mom even!

I may feel like a mouse or even less in front of Him, but, with the knowledge of Him, everyone else in the World comes down to the ground. If I was to meet any human being from any walk of life, including the so called great men of the World (except for the great men of the Lord himself), I know deep in my heart, that I would neither be intimidated nor be in awe of them, as I see them just as myself, mere human beings. In such a case how can I feel like a mouse or suicidal when I am full of self confidence because of my belief.

Please know that with belief in the All Powerful Omniscient Omnipresent Lord all around you and with you, it gives you the bravery of a child with his mom next to him. At the same time awareness that you can not be naughty, as Mom is watching your every action!

I hope I am making sense to you.

The bible said that fear is of the devil. The Bible states that I can Do all things which is in Christ Jesus. The devil is always trying to get us to backdown. We are warriors of Gods army putting on his armor. Please don't let the devil beat you down .God loves you so much that he gave his Son for our sins so that we could inherit all that he has for us.Gods not going to strike us down everytime we miss up.He knows we well mess up and hes waiting to be there for us.Let me tell you a story about what happen to me and my wife.My wife was carring my 2nd child and one day i came home from work ,and noticed that she was sad and crying, so I ask her whats wrong, she said that the baby wasn't moving and he hadn't for two weeks,so the only thing I knew to do was to call on GOD and I prayed. To make the story short we got to the hospital and everything was great but to top it off and proof it was God.My son inside my wifes belly raised his are as if to wave at us and Waved and the doctor said, did you see him he looked like he waved at us ,and I said he did. This is a pretty lone answer but I felt that God may use this as if to say to you PLEASE DON"T GIVE UP ON ME I LOVE YOU god bless you friend

That would depend on your religion, if your religion is part of christianity, than your faith was weak. You must allow Christ to come into your life. Did you call to him whenever you were in need, help, or in trouble? I will pray for you. If you go back to your religion and you feel like suicide, then mearly dont stay in that religion. just pray from your house.

That's because Religion is a man made thing.

God isn't.

Don't blame God for Religion, blame man.

What do you believe in now. That you're an accident. That you're just a bunch of quarks or invisible one dimensional strings.

Trading one set of myths for another doesn't make you better, stronger or wiser. It just proves you buy into things to easily.

You traded ONE cult for another.

That doesn't make you intellegent. That just proves "there's a sucker born every minute."
