Running on a treadmill puts about the same stress on your knees and hips as running anywhere else.

If you are looking for an exercise machine that is less stressful, particularly to your knees, you should look at elliptical trainers. These machines are fun to use and are much gentler on your body. They still give you a good cardio workout too.

I highly recommend it. I use mine almost every day.

No worse than running... its a little bit softer on the body than running since the tread tends to have a little bit of bounce in it compared to concrete. An elliptical of some sort would provide a lower impact but similar exercise if you're concerned about the stress running would put on you.

I run on a treadmill, and its really no different than say..running on a track or something.

But it hurts my ankles! So i've been swimming a lot.

One of my friends told me that the Gazelle worked nice because its lower impact. I think i'm going to get one.
