Yes, the skinny buddha is in his 20's and the fat buddha is how he looked 20 years later.

No. The skinny Buddha is the Buddha. The fat one is the Buddha of Happiness. Anybody, theoretically can become a Buddha. You just have to reach enlightenment. The there are Bodisavas (sp). Like Guan Yin. She is the main one I can think of. That is somebody who can reach enlightenment but chooses not to to help others obtain it.

Fat Buddha is a Chinese thing as because people were so poor being fat and well fed meant you were lucky.
