I'm really interested in cost efficient ways to send money. i think Western Union charges a 10% fee just to send $100. Ridiculous!!

Is she really your girlfriend? That is, do you really know her? Or is she an online friend you've never met, whom you presume is a girl? Or could she be stringing you along and playing someone else. That said, if she really is, then you could send money by wire from your bank to hers, or by Western Union for her to pick up. Depending on whether she's in a country with an honest mail service, you could even try sending cash through the mail, but that's risky, especially between countries.

Wire transfers are the best way to go. The fee is usually 35 dollars for international wires. Thats your best bet and it goes into her account.

Try CitiBank the transfer are free, or open an account that she has access to it, it has worked for me and my family
