I have been to the Health Dept. and all they can help me with was $125. Total out his meds come to almost $600 for one month. Our hosptial doesn't help with meds if you don't have insurance. I have tried.
I am at a loss for help.
I don't belong to a church as the only one we went to was taken over by a rude man.( diff. story)
I know that he is my main concern. I am very worried about him I don't know what to do.

Children with ADHD qualify for Social Security Disability (SSI). Go to your local SS office, but go with documents in hand, where he has already been diagnosed and copies of medical records from all Dr's.who have seen him relating to this; the health office; school records, anything pertaining to his ADHD/ODD. Being prepared on your first visit will make things go faster and smoother. If he is denied benefits, appeal the decision if that fails get a lawyer. In the mean time call or e-mail the drug companies and explain your situation, a lot of these companies have programs set up for these kind of situations. But, never give up there is help for him out there....I know this because I have two children that have this. My oldest son (26) suffered from ADD. my youngest (21) has ADHD and had to be on medication. Being a single mom by the time he started school I had to have all the help financially that I could get. Trust me I explored EVERY avenue. Good Luck and never ever give up on him or finding ways to make his life less complicated.

I don't know what state you're from but I think most have programs that can help you. Medicaid being the most obvious. Go to your local Department of Human Services (or whatever it's called there). Even if you don't qualify for medicaid there are other programs. He can also qualify for SSI through Social Security. Call the Social Security Office to start that process. This will get him much needed insurance. It takes awhile so the sooner the better. I hope you get the help you need soon. My 6 year old grandson has early onset bi-polar disorder so I understand. Good luck.

My daughter is 8 and was diagnosed with ADHD at age 5, but her behavior keeps getting worse, we have taken her back to counseling and they are now going to test for autism and bi-polar disorder. You need to get the child to a doctor as soon as possible. Most states offer free health care to children under age 18, contact your local DHS office to find out if your state offers this. In doing my own research, I found that there have been casesd of misdiagnosis when it comes to ADHD, some kids are really bi-polar and not ADHD at all. I suggest you get him to a doctor now have them test him for torets if he is developing a tic, you can also do research on the internet, that is how I got most of my information, we all know how doctors are and their medical terminology.

Well. They're rather fond of niacin for just about... everything on earth. To the point where some people are dead from liver toxicity because of it. Niacin is, of course, not useful for such things. While the only personal experience I have is with victims of that atrocious substance abuse program they have. Words fail to describe the disgusting taste thinking about that program puts in my mouth. We had fifteen people just completely.. totally screwed over by it in my study. Though I'd imagine they'd deal with it the way cultures have for hundreds if not thousands of years. Slap at the illness ineffectively with religious mumbo jumbo. Then when it doesn't get better, either abuse the person, or push them out of sight so the neighbors don't see. Every culture throughout history has had its way of dealing with mental illness, and most of them have been outright atrocities.

I am a nanny for a child that is severe ADHD, and learning disabled. He IS on Adderall, but it doesn't help him. I have been talking to his mom about alternative treatments. Caffeine has been shown to have the opposite effect on people with ADHD. It actually helps them calm down and concentrate rather than hyping them up. Try this with your son. My son was a preemie (Born at 29 weeks) and the doctors put caffeine in his IV. They said it helps stimulate the brain so the preemies would remember to breath and keep up their oxygen levels. My son will be 3 in a couple of weeks and he has no delays what-so-ever.

insurance or no insurance he needs help. That as a parent is your #1 job. If you belong to a church talk to your clergy. They are great help. Talk to the nurse at your County Health Dept. even if they themselves can't help you they can point you in the right direction. There is help out there for him... go get it!!!

I would try to get him on Medicaid if you can. I have ADD myself and my step son has ADHD . I know how hard it can be not being on medication. If not check out your free clinic in your area they might be able to help.
