anotherme, the question for you is this, have you heard the Church commanded the Catholics to molest children?

the Church never commanded its members to molest children, so why stone the Church with that crap?

I'm an ex-fundy. They do spread catholic-phobia. It's not isolated but spread throughout fundamentalism. I've been to many churches that taught misinformation about Catholics.

It's not christian to spread hate, but this is fundamentalism. They don't see it as hate. It's just that kind of mentality that 300 years ago would have had them sewing scarlet "A"s on dresses or dredging up women to burn at the stake. They have to have someone to kick.

Laptop is spot-on. I have seen/heard this first-hand, myself, years before we had Internet forums, and it is no surprise -- although very sad -- that it continues.

I've given this a bit of thought. I don't think it's a matter of spreading hate, as much as an ingrained knee-jerk reaction to all things Catholic. For those who have made up their minds that the Catholic Church is idolatrous and evil, even the best efforts of Catholic apologists to correct misinformation and demonstrate the Biblical basis of doctrine will not succeed in changing their minds. It is likely that nothing short of direct intervention by the Holy Spirit would do so.

We Catholics have three choices when faced with blind obstinacy and vitriol from fundamentalists: Respond in kind, respond patiently with the truth again and again, or decline to engage in the argument at all. If we choose the third, we must also pray for them, remembering that though we are estranged they are nevertheless our brothers.

I don't know, it smacks of desperation though. You'd think hate and intolerance was a virtue with some of them. Catholics have no problem ignoring evangelical types, I don't know why the reverse can't be true. Geoff - I stopped reading after you said "Catholic cult." Cults don't last 2000 years and have over a billion adherents worldwide. Maybe you might want to save yourself some embarrassment and find another word.

See that I do not like. I do not like when people say Catholics are not Christians and I have said that a million times you believe in the trinity and the bible. dude you are Christian....

I really do not like separations within the same religious group then what is the point in being of that religion in the first place?

besides Jesus (PBUH) never taught hate!

Awesome question by the way!

To answer honestly, I used to frequently study the Catholic religion, merely to disprove its beliefs and practices as biblically valid. I recently realized that this was not only wrong, but it was hurting my relationship with Christ. I got so caught up in trying to disprove Catholic beliefs, that I was beginning to forget what was really important~ My relationship with God!! So I plead to all those who waste their time and energy into disproving other religions, to spend this time in the Word, growing in their walk with God instead. Love your fellow Christians! And if you don't agree with them, then just pray for them! Don't speak to them condesendingly or insult them!
And to all Catholics: I apologize for my past behavior and insulting questions, and I want you all to know that I am turning over a new leaf:)

Spread hate, who spreads hate, Catholic people? Most of my friends are catholic, and even though I don't agree with their beliefs, I respect them. I have never seen a catholic person spread hate. I am a Protestant.

Well it is a FACT that the current POPE just RE-ENFORCED the concept that anyone who isn't a Catholic, well, you know what he said and implied.

Now he's alienated Muslims and now he's alienating other faiths. And of course you defend him, you're required to by law.

He seems to be throwing his fair share of stones. You don't expect people to pick them up and throw them back.

We really shouldn't spread hate about any religion. Just preach the truth according to God's Word and eventually Catholics will see that Catholicism does not line up with truth and leave it on their own.

To answer this, you have to look at the big picture. The core of organized religion is discrimination. Sad, but it is true. For example, the Pope decreed that most religions are good, but catholicism is the only way to get into heaven. The Jewish, Muslim, Born-Again, Morman, etc. all believe that their way is the only "correct" way.
