Don't buy soda. If it's not in the house, it's not there to give to the kid.

Visit a pedi dentist web site...read on the phenom they are calling sippy cup rot. It is literally tooth decay at the top of the front teeth where the drink from the sippy cup first hits your childs teeth. It is awfull, you don't even realize it until it is too late- have you seen the little kids with metal front teeth... Any how their teeth tend to have weaker enamel, more prone to decay, and many kids don't go to the dentist...
FYI- most childrens dentist will do a FREE first time exam/ cleaning on a child under 3!!! Good idea to take your child to help become aquainted with the dentist when it is not for real dental work, and then if the soda has caused any issues you'll know. And make Dad go with you so he can hear from the dentist how bad it is for the baby's teeth...I mean, my mother used to pour soda on her cars battery connection, it had corroded and the soda would eat away at the rust so the connection would start the car (if that makes sense) anyhow, if it can eat away rust think of what it does to (our) and a babies teeth. (dentist will also tell you that lolli pops, and gummy type fruit snacks are other leading culprits...they stay in the mouth longer/ have more contact with the teeth to cause more decay than say chocolate (which you just chew and eat and be done with)

...mom of 3 boys, including a 9 year old who had 2 dental surgeries by the age of 4 to repair sippy cup rot...

Show your husband some of the gross dental pictures from a dentist of children who have soda. That ought to gross him out and scare him not to give soda to a child.

Tell him you will take the beer away. If he really cares, you can sit him down and tell him to stop with the soda. Its not good for a child anyways.

Tell him to stop?
If he doesn't tell him again, and again, and again. Explain to him your reasons for it.
