I have one battery in my car and my farad cap says about 12v when the car is off and a little over 13 when its on. How can I get it to go to 17 without hurting my amp? I know I can put another battery in my car, but won't that put the voltage to 24v? Will this be pumping 24v into my amp? or does that mean that 24v are available if the amp should need them, but only pushes what the amp takes? Thanks

The best you can do is doing the BIG 3 upgrade:
replacing the wire with a 1/0 gauge size between the battery and alternator, and the both ground connections of the battery/chassis, and the alternator/engine block.
This will better the amperes supplied to the car since the voltage drop of the wire is minimal.
Also you could upgrade you alternator with a high output one. But the voltage in the car will never be greater than 14-15 volts, since that's the designed voltage for the car's electrical system.
A way to reach 27 volts you will have to do a power circuit, with transformer to each 27 volts that is very difficult to do and is not appropriate.

The only way to get 17 volts to your amp is to get an alternator that produces 17 volts. However, this is likely to damage your battery, capacitor and vehicle computer system because they're all designed to work on 12-15 volts.

no.. its still 12 volts.. the only way to increase your voltage it to get a higher voltage alternator..
