The body shop doesn't care as long as they get paid. It becomes a problem if the person who is responsible changes their mind about paying. Then you will be wishing you called the police. Have the responsible person sign for the repairs.

Even if there was no police report, the body shop will look at any car. My question would be......Did you get a copy of the other person's insurance? The police don't really matter in this situation, ( In some states they will only come out if the damage done was over a certain amount of money or it was something like a hit and run) what matters is if you open a claim with the insurance. If you are trying to settle this without insurance, than you can get a quote from a body shop and if they don't pay UP FRONT, than call the insurance company for back up.

The body shop doesn't care that you didn't file a police report. They just care that they will be paid. Even though you didn't file a police report at the time of the accident, you can still file an accident report so that you have your facts on file. This would be a good idea just in case the person that rearended you decides to change their mind on what happened. If your vehicle is totalled than the insurance company will pay you the actual cash value of your vehicle. Most of the time you are given the option to buy back the salvage.

The body shop couldn't care less if there was a police report. It's none of their business. They just want to be sure they get paid.

Did you report the accident to YOUR insurance company? Do you have the guy's insurance company name and his insurance number?
You need to contact YOUR insurance agent and ask what to do next. In some states, it is a misnomer offense NOT to report an accident.
Why didn't you get a police report? Now the insurance company will have to do an investigation to determine if they are going to pay.

When you're rear ended it is virtually automatic that the other driver is at fault. (Why no police?)
