It's actually a completely genius scam. Threaten people with hell, and they'll give you 10% of their income. I just wish I had thought of it first

They shouldnt be tax exempt, I think that is part of what the 'goverment may not respect an establishment of religion' was put in our bill of rights for. Sorry im off topic but I had to say that.
Sadly, with many churches you are right.

Some do and some don't. It is a real easy way to spot the wolves in sheep's clothing. It's real simple. Just go to a church and listen to what is being said from the pulpit. If they spend a great deal of time asking for money then you know where their heart is, Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. This goes especially for pastors.

I think just about any religion can apply for tax exempt status, not just Christians. I know a few Wiccan and Pagan groups who have done so.

It is nice for you to let us answer such a rhetorical question, not that you really like to know the answer. Most churches use the money wisely to spread what they believe to be true. You thinking they build extravagant buildings, that would make them putting the money right back into society so don't see how that is doing you wrong.

Pretty much. I think they should be taxed like any other business. They advertise like one, they take your money like one, and they step all over people's rights like one.
