First--not all LDS are bad, my best friend is Mormon. He's a great guy, an amazing friend.

Second--why not give all that money to build houses for the poor? Feed and shelter homeless children? Take care of poeple that really need it instead of building more and more churches? I have three LDS churches that I can see from the roof of my house...

You must be from AZ?

As others have mentioned that the love of money is the problem I will make another interesting observation.

My wife is agnostic (and I'm Mormon) and she is always giving me a hard time about how boring and plain our temples and meeting houses are. I tell her it's not so much about having gaudy and ornate buildings, but more about having a clean and welcoming place to worship. (She grew up near a crazy ornate Catholic and Presbyterian church).

So, I guess it's a little subjective, but I believe that the Mormon faith has attempted to keep their buildings pretty conservative (even though some of their early temples were more ornate). They have also moved more in that direction as their temples will now all be based on one basic design and their churches have almost always been like that.

I guess to you a church should be held in a tent or a steel sided tuff-shed type building, but I think it's nice to have somewhere with air and decent benches to sit on while worshiping God and His Son Jesus Christ. That can't be all that bad can it? Additionally, I think it's pretty wise that the church pays for all of their buildings without using credit or incurring debt, avoiding being tied to the world.

Well, money is not the root of all evil, but we are the humans are the root of all evil. Money is just a tool we use to get to things we desire. it depend on us how we get money and how we spend it. lets take an example, there two guys found $500,000 each. one guy took the five hundred thousand and he bought a house and he got married and had a secure life. the other guy took the money and opened night/strip club and selled drugs in his clubs for teenagers to make more money. he will either be killed or end up in a priosn cell. it's not the money that are evil, it's the way we think and take decisions. the decisons we take is the life we live.

LOVE of money is the root of all evil.

What is wrong with having nice buildings in which to worship? Many times, our chapels are built to such high standards taht during some natural disasters, they are one of the few buidings able to be used as emergency shelters.

All denominations do this.

It's still sad that 1/3 of the people on the planet are to fat while 1/3 starve. Not that it has much to do with the question other than the fact that Christians still interpret what they want and not what was taught. I'm not trying to be mean to them, they are to naive to be mean to them.

Blessed Be!

we don't think money is evil but we spend the money to help those in the church and others. the churches and temples are the lords house and wouldn't you want the lords house to be the best o the best.

1 Tim. 6: 10 LOVE of money is the root of all evil

It is not horded by individuals but spent for the good of all like temples, Katrina relief, feeding the hungry, housing the poor.

Maybe for the same reason the Catholic Church has been doing that same thing for 2000 years. Why single out the Mormons?
