You can store your car with TMO on base when you get deployed. as far as your insurance goes, you can put it into a non driving status, I did this while i was deployed, my monthly insurance bill was $20 while in storage.

If you buy a car while deployed from AAFES, they will have it built the way you want it and have it shipped to your home while you are out on the seas. As far as insurance goes, if you buy a car outright with no payments you can pull the insurance on it you just have to turn the plates and a copy of your depo orders into the Department of Licensing. If you are making payment you have to have full coverage on your car at all times or the lean holder will put insurance on your car and add it to the cost of the loan. Talk to USAA about auto insurance they are only for military folks and they have the best rates and work really well with you while deployed.

32nd Street has a long term parking lot for just such an occurance. You can easily drop insurance down to the minimum required while underway for an extended period of time.
We actually stored our car in Norfolk for three years while stationed in Yokosuka. we bought a heavy duty cover and paid a little extra to have the engine run once a month.

32nd St Naval station has a "Long Term" parking for deployed members. I think its like $15 a month. Might want to look into that. As for your insurance, You should get a letter from your admin stating that you will be deployed. Most insurance companies will accept that and will "hold" your policy knowing that you wont be driving. Keep in mind that when they do hold your policy, that means fire, theft, damage also.

The Navy has storage set up already. They do this a bit; you just have to ask your unit. You can't stop paying your insurance, but you would only need fire, water, and theft if it's just gonna sit for a while.
Of course it's worth it, but you're gonna have other sailors trying to sponge off of you all the time.

I wouldn't do it if you think you are going on deployment. I spent one year at Pendleton and never had a car. Wait until you find out for sure you are going on deployment and wait until you get back, If you are in the Navy why aren't you asking your fellow Navy friends instead of a bunch of civs?

Send it home or store it. Your choice - where will you put your items. I would sell & buy new.
