Life is but walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. Or something like that. Sounds like he has been reading Shakespeare.

his time is but a moment= life is short

his sense, a dim rushlight= we have little understanding of the world around his (as for, example, you can see and understand little of your surroundings by the light of a burning reed)

All that is body is as coursing waters= our body is constantly changing, and we grow old

all that is of the soul, as dreams, and vapors= this is a notion quite contrary to judeo/christian thought, that the soul itself is impermanent
