I realize it says in the Book of Matthew go into the world and make disciples of every man. But what if your gifting is not evangelism but rather mercy and encouragement? What are ways to share the gospel and bless people having these gifts?

My husband and I love the Lord and we want to bless and glorify God but what are most effective ways to share the gospel with the giftings we have?

Thank you for your answers and God bless you.

For some people this scripture is literal. They go into the world & preach the gospel. For others of us we reach out to the world through this forum or by the example that our lives set to those around us who see us. God gives each of us talents & gifts. It's our responsiblity to cultivate them & use them for Him. Not everyone is cut out to travel around the world preaching. Others reach out to their neighborhoods. Keep this in mind too....winning others isn't always about preaching to the masses. Sometimes it about living your life in a way to glorify God so that others can see & want that peace that you have.

I'm not the evangelistic type either, and many people aren't. But God has given everyone gifts and it is up to us to find out how to use them. Instead of going out into the world and making disciples of every man like something Billy Graham would do, try to remember that you're actions alone will speak volumes about who you are. If someone asks you why you are so different or why you're so uplifting or why are you helping them, take the opportunity to tell them how Jesus has changed your life.

I look at preaching the gospel like a stage production. Of course we need the "actors" out front (preachers) to preach the word...but without people running the lights, sounds, props, etc. (us) we would get nowhere and the production would be nothing. Basically what I am trying to say is work on the small stuff and soon you will be lead in different directions and sharing you're gifts will become better. God does not over look the small things. Most importantly ask God to lead you.

Going into the world and make disciples of every man...doesn't necessarily mean that every christian should go and share the gospel in the same way with the gift of evangelism...use the gifts u have to spead God's word. For me, it is living by example. I don't go out and "preach" the Bible with words. I try to live a whole and good life. Sure, I mess up sometimes. but evangelism is a way of life. Live to glorify God in all that u say and do. Live by example.

Use the giftings God has given you. People with the gift of evangelism will be used by God a lot in evangelism Those of us who do not have that gift will also be called by God on occasion to evangelize, but not as often those with the gift.

The gifts of mercy and encouragement are important too. Sometimes people get discouraged and need someone to come alongside them and show they care. This could be just what the person needs to keep going when things get tough. Or sometimes what they need to stay in the faith and not leave it. Or it could be the thing that results in them becoming a Christian later on.

All the people of God with their gifts are necessary for the proper working of the body and the building up of itself in love.

In your referenced book the instructions, in context, were to the disciples. The instructions were to those specific men at that specific time.

The way you live your life is the gospel darlin'. That's what the Amish understand. You don't see an Amish person knocking on your door with a tract, yet you know exactly who these people are, right? That's because they live the gospel, their whole lives are the gospel, and that's what the gospel truly is.... Your life laid down in service to the Lord. Coming out from among 'them' and being separate (holy) in service to the Lord.

It's not easy coming out of the worldly systems (including brick and mortar 501c3 government sanctioned churches), nor de-colonizing your mind from everything you've been taught to be the 'right' way to do things. If it were, it would be the wide road that leads to destruction, not the narrow way where FEW there be that find it.

I have the same gifts you do- and I have found that we can evangelize as well. How? Start by ministering to the needs of people, through encouragement and mercy. I actually volunteered at a pregnancy help clinic for about 10 years and ministered to the girls, through mercy, and then started to share Christ- God will give you the words to evangelize. You do not have to go clear around the world to see people come to Christ. Just stay faithful to serving people with your giftings and God will give the courage to share the good news of Christ. Use compassion, Christ did!!!

Through your mercy you can evangelize by simply giving your testimony to those you come into contact with. Be that witness by simply telling others of what God has brought you from before your salvation and what He has done in your life since. You say you are an encourager, the greatest encouragement you can give another is to tell them what brought you to repent of your sin and accept Jesus as your Savior.
Your life and your testimony are the two greatest gifts you can use to glorify God and lead others to see what only God can do.
May God bless you and guide you in your ministry for, and to, Him.

My giftings are also mercy and encouragement. You can be an example by your life but you also need to be listening to the Lord and willing to talk to whomever God places in your path. He'll not only tell you when to speak to him but He'll tell you what you need to say too. Try being still and know that God is God. He'll tell you what you need to do.

I've been reading a book about the life of Smith Wigglesworth. He spent so much time with the Lord, there were times he would just walk into a room and people would be convicted of their sins. He once said.."To hunger and thirst after righteousness is when nothing in the world can fascinate us so much as being near to God."

I think some of the best "evangelism" happens in friendships and relationships with other Christians and non-Christians alike. I am not one to easily walk up to a stranger and say "So, tell what you know about Jesus...," but I have had the opportunity several times in the last 7 years since I was saved to share the message of Christ by LOVING like Christ.

Just as an example, I helped a neighbor of mine come to know the Lord without even realizing I did it. When the big Tsunami struck a couple of years ago, my neighbor (who believed in God, but was not seeking to know Christ more or grow in Him) had an emotional moment during which she asked, "Why would God let such a horrible thing happen?" I didn't know how to answer her except to hug her and say "Why do you think the creator of the universe needs to explain Himself to you? Sometimes things happen for reasons that are not in His plan for us to know and part of faith is trusting Him, not asking Him to justify himself." Without realizing it, my being honest and loving at the same time with her was a catalyst in her walk with Christ. She's now a part of our Bible study and goes to church with her whole family (her husband was not previously saved either).

If your gift is in mercy and encouragement, love your brothers and sisters through mercy and encouragement. They will see Christ in your love.

God doesn't need all of us to be able to "close the deal" for Him. Sometimes he just needs someone to plant the first seeds so that the fruit will be ready for another one of His children to help grow before he makes the final harvest.

Blessings to you!

I have that gift of encouragement............I THINK, lol. I have found from my personal experience that encouragement seems to form itself in response to others in difficulties. I have usually seen it in action in that way. For example, when a friend calls with a life crisis. I've seen what I think is the Holy Spirit working through me in this way. Also when someone is facing a mountain and they have to choose (like "do I go back to school or don't I....stuff like that). I notice the Lords seems to, I think, use me in times like those to help encourage a person forward when they are hesitant to move. I also, several times in my life, have found myself convicted to tell a person they are doing a wonderful job and they are appreciated. This last thing I have said is usually very difficult for me because I am shy in person and it can be a proactive thing rather than a reactive thing. Well, at least that's how I see this gift working in my life. For me, at least, it has been more of a responsive thing though mostly. I think that's the nature of encouragement many times. Well that's my 2 cents.
God bless!

Well, mercy and encouragement are some very awesome gifts. They may not be the flashy type, but God views them equal to all of the other gifts. Keep in mind that you don't have to lead someone to Christ from start to finish, this rarely happens anyways. It is through a network of Christians and their different gifts that someone will become a disciple of Christ. Your gifts would be greatly suited to showing what God is like. Just like offspring are similar to their parents, so are we to our Creator. You may be the first link to showing someone to Christ, because of how you act people might wonder why you are different. This is a perfect oppertunity to share.
