I bought a car a month ago from a used car dealership in which I paid for the car by check (full amount). He said he was going to wait to give me the title because he wanted to make sure the check cleared. Well its been just over a month now and he hasnt sent the title to me. My buddy at work told me that a dealer can get in big trouble for not making sure I get the title in the 30-day period. Is this true? What are the consequences the dealer can be held against for this? Would it allow me to return the car for my money back? I live in Kansas, not sure what the laws are here about it. Thanks.

Have you called the dealer to ask about the title. It is quite possible that they have it, and are waiting for you to come in and get it. Many dealers do not normally mail titles, they have the customer come in and physically get it. They may want you to sign a receipt that you have received the title, or you may need to sign the title or reassignment!

If the dealer can not deliver marketable title, you may be able to cancel the sale, but until you contact the dealer, you do not know what the problem is!

Call them in the morning!

he has 21 days as a dealer in Tx....he can then give a blue tag...he won't get in trouble with dmv if he says the title had to be signed off on...o they are waiting for a signature..in tX you have to have the title to sell the car...did you get a copy...did you see it?? in Texas a dealer surrenders the title to the state and they give a new one and tags

Provided your check has cleared and I am assuming it has otherwise they would have come and taken the car back why don't you pop on over to the dealership yourself and see if they have it?

Go back to the dealer, remind him of the problem and tell him if he doesn't solve the problem you will be forced to get a lawyer to straighten it out. Pops
