I've been exercising quite a bit (i haven't before) and I've cut out the junk food. Why did I put on weight instead of lose it? Help it's really frustrating, I don't want to lose my motivation because of this.

It all comes down to eating more energy thatn your body needs. The excess is stored as fat. Other minor possibilities are you lost some fat and replaced it with heavier muscle or that you are temporarily retaining water or temporarily constipated.

Take a really careful look at your exercise amounts. Do you really break a sweat and raise your ehart rate for a continued time? Look at your food intake and keep a diary for a few days. You might be eating more than you think. And we won't discuss just nibbling a treat now and then.

Also verify that your scale is accurate by trying yourself on the doctor's scale or a scale at a friend's house or at a health club.

you need to be focusing on inches rather than weight!! muscle weighs more than fat, so you could be losing inches but gaining good muscle! take your measurements and take them again in a week! i bet you've lost some inches!!!

Muscle weighs more than fat so that might be why you are gaining, and if you are on your cycle you will bloat so then you gain weight, then lose it.
