I have a dog that had a rabbies shot 1/3/07 and her paperwork says vaccine expiration 3/14/08 and vaccination expires 12/19/07. When is it due again after 12/19/07 or 3/14/08? I'm confused... Thanks

The rabies vaccination ( in the bottle ) itself expires 3/14/08. If the vet didn't use it before that date, he would have to dispose of it.
Your dog should be due for the next vaccination 1/3/08 or right around there. I wouldn't get the next shot in December, as it won't even have been a full year. Likely they are on vacation for Christmas, so they choose to do the shot prior to it being needed, rather than after.

Her next vaccine should be due a year from the date it was given. The 3/14/08 is the date the vaccine itself would have expired, and should not be used past that date.

Contact your vet to be sure, because different clinics can vary on their vaccination protocol, and may get their vaccination serum from different several different companies. Your pet's age might also be a factor. One date will represent when they feel your pet needs to come back for another inoculation, the other date is the actual date that the serum expires if for instance it was sitting the in fridge at the vet's. It's normal for this information to be displayed on your rabies certificate, but it is a little confusing.

I would get her re-vaccinated on the earliest date, 1/3/07 because if your dog bites someone and you have any paperwork that suggests your dog's shots might be expired they will put her down.

Check with your vet. The last time I took my pet to the vet the vaccination was good for three years. Your dog might have had another shot that is the other expiration date. check with your vet to be sure.

You should call your vet and ask them. Or next time you go in to the vet office show them, and ask them what it means. If you forget to bring the paper, or lose it by then, they will have a copy in the computer.
