just because they don't open up doesn't mean that they aren't trustworthy. they may have been hurt in the past and find it hard to open up. ask them questions and don't rush things. there is no reason to.

I'd do a little of both. I wouldn't trust them by saying anything that I minded anyone knowing.
I would try to figure them out; in order to help them open up. I have a friend that I've known since junior high school, like 40 years. We weren't close for all of those years; back and forth. She seems to have some off the wall ideas about some things. She won't let anybody get really close to her. You learn sort of when to back off and don't ask too many questions.

Probably scared to death of letting you see the real them. They probably spend alot of time putting up a front so that you will accept them. You can still trust the person especially if they have been deemed trustworthy for the last couple of years. Has this person hurt you on purpose. Depends on how old you are in regard to figuring them out. If you are older you have the life experience to kind of know what is going on, otherwise just accept them for where they are. You cannot change them.

The person probably has issues with opening up to people. If you've been supportive and encouraged conversation, then you've done enough. It's up to you if you want to try harder, but it sounds like they don't want to be bothered with this. You don't have to ditch them - but maybe accept your friendship for what it is. And if you feel the need to open up to them and they are not able, begin to look for other people to add to your life that your needs will be met.

I would ask myself what it was about ME that the person wound find hard to talk to. Instead of blaming the other person I would do what I could to make myslf more accessibly, more available, more open and trustworthy to talk to.

It is so frustrating that you can't change other people but you can change yourself!

I would think they 1) either dont want to open up to ME or 2) they have intimacy issues. Either way I would not spend anymore time on them.

People who do not open up have something to hide. Either that or they have a mental imbalance which limits their ability to open up. I consider most people who do not open up to be dishonest, and not trust worthy.

Accept the person as they are. Some people are naturally more reserved than others.
