Suddenly, overnight that is, my cat has grown a lump right behind his ribcage It doesnt seem to bother him, he lets me brush him as usual. But I just took him to the vet a few days ago (he showed up on my doorstep just a few weeks ago) and I'm completely out of money for another two weeks. Should I be hugely worried about this? I've known several dogs to get fat lumps on them which were roughly the same size and shape (half a golfball) but I don't know if this is normal for cats? Especially cats who were starving and are still very very thin.

Anybody who has had a similar issue please let me know if I need to go into debt to get him back to the vet.

If it were an abscess or some other type of infection that might need immediate care it should be tender and the cat would not likely allow you to brush that area.
If it is a cyst or fatty tumor it should be OK to wait until you have money to go to vet.
It may be a good idea to call the vet and ask if they feel it is safe to wait 2 weeks or if he needs to be seen immediately, but I don't believe it will do any harm to wait the 2 weeks to go in.

Is the bump movable?does it move around under the skin? Most likely a bite that is pussing up and should be lanced if it is growing .if the size doesn't change much if any from day today then i think the vet could wait. I had a small lump form on the side of a chihuahua pup once that turned out to be a fly larve growing under the skin.

That's a tough call. If it was an abscess, boil, or reaction to a bug bite - it should be tender. Examine it for any possible wound or scarring, which may indicate an abscess. If it's an abscess or boil, it may burst if you squeeze it (internally or externally). If this happens, be sure to clean the fur and skin thoroughly. Wipe with rubbing alcohol, and apply an antibiotic cream like neosporin.

If it's a bee sting - watch for other allergic reactions, like breathing problems. Call an emergency vet if this happens. Otherwise, swelling is normal and will fade within hours.

If you can't treat it, grows larger, or doesn't go away in a day or two, make an appt for an exam.

Good luck.

Whenever a lump is present, it is ALWAYS good to get a vet visit. You never know, it could be something as harmless as a cyst or fatty tumor, to as dangerous as an infection or cancer. Safe over sorry. And to my knowledge, seizures do not cause lumps unless the lumps are elsewhere inside, like on her brain and causing the seizures.

My cat has one also. Next to the marble sized lump seems to be a longer lump attached. Not painful and not red or discolored in any way.

If the cat was in a fight it could be an abscess.I had one die on me when he hid from us and it busted. The other one had on and caught it in time to get vet to lance it.It may be that and may not.Keep an eye on him. They get them from other cats during a fight.May not be if it don't bother or hurt tho.Good luck with him, hope hes ok.

It may be an abcess which needs to be looked at right away, if they bump is big enough it may require surgery. This bump can also be the result of a flea implanting its eggs into your cat's skin, which sometimes creates that bump. This also needs to addressed right away.

Lumps in cats can be very serious and we do not recommend wait and see. They do not get fatty tumors as easily as dogs do. I wouldn't wait to have it checked.

Could be a cyst and it should be checked by a vet because without seeing it one can only guess.
