Why is there the common misconception that only Muslim women have been given laws regarding clothing? In Islam, Everything is made equal. We are not opressed not burdened. In fact we are enlightened and happy. The only reason many folks are understandably only shown images of women is because we are being compared to western women. People believe that we should be able to dress like them. They don't know that our restrictions on clothing apply to men as well. But since western men are not put under the microscope of designated beauty, people think that Islam lets Muslim brothers do as they wish. Many often forget in their discussion of clothing within the guidelines of Islam, to speak of the issue of Islamic Dress for Men. While the dress code of women is often the discussion of newspaper articles and magazine stories and academic writings, you hardly ever will see a word written about the issue of Islamic dress of Men.

What do you say about this?

I fully agree with you. Allah (swt) has ordered the hijab of men before the hijab of women in the Holy Quran. In Sura Al-Nur, First instruction is for men and then follows for women. Many Muslim brothers doesn't know that Islam prescribes modesty in dress for them. That's why we see tight fit jeans that go far below the ankles and many resembling unbelievers. A Muslim should follow modesty, humbleness and simplicity in all his life styles, for he has much greater goals in life, far above play & amusements of this world. May Allah guide all of us. Amen.

DEAR MOONLIT - Would a true Muslim care about it really?

People have to say something or the other whether a girl is a muslim or a non muslim. If a woman wears contemporary attires some people call them immodest. If they wear clothes that are short people see them as whores. If the women wear loose large clothes people call her orthodox. People speak against others just for the sake of it.Thier words are shallow as much a their thoughts when they do so.
The fault lies in the eyes of such people. In Hinduism people are preached that they should see the woman as Shakti-the power of God.If a person has this pure vision he will respect the sanctity of a womans body because woman is the mother ie the power of giving birth is bestowed to her through this body that Allah has gifted.
People never leave women in any case. If they work outside home for long hours some people say that they are neglecting thier duties towards the family. If they dont people say that they are doing nothing for financial support and so on

its not about Muslim women alone but women throughout the world. There are many sense less people in this world-just that.

I find it very fair that men have a dress code as well and many Muslim men I know do follow it, and even more. When men dress Islamically, they are also supporting women that adhere to hijab as well. Hijab encourages you to look at the person, not the body or the clothes. And there are ways to dress in American style while still being modest. Denim jumpers, jackets and jean skirts are modest and do not look out of place on the street in the US.

The code of dress exists in the bible too. Religious Jews also have dress requirements. The Christians have just forgotten they exist as with the dietary laws, etc. As to the reasoning behind these laws, specifically the ones relative to women, may be seen as diminutive because people see it as women having to do something because men cannot control themselves. This discourse has also applied to women of the Jewish communities here in the west as well.

People do not mind the laws of Islam. I've seen some of this laws, But people usually confuse considering Muslims as Islam. acually there is no real Muslim in this world. everybody is doing his or her own favor. If Islam was being performed well, then we could say " It is the best system ever !"..... But no one does that as well as considered.

You are right that God has regulated the clothes for woman muslim is different with muslim man, because God created woman and man with different function. The privy of a woman is not the same with the privy of a man.God spoke in the holy Qur'an that the body of a muslimah should be covered except of her face and her hand's palms. The woman should dress like that for the safety of muslimah and also for differncing with non muslimah.Muslimah can wear the modern dress with various color if she likes, but she must remember to cover all parts of her privy.. as stated in the holy Qur'an .

In America (I cannot speak for other countries) it is VERY common to see a Muslim man walking around in average American style clothing - jeans, t-shirt etc. Looking very American.

However, the women are still dressing in the native garb, hence, we assume that it's OK for the men to do as they wish, but the women are not free to do so!

Do you honestly think that compares to what a Muslim woman is forced to wear? I do feel sorry for you, honestly. Have you ever beaten a Muslim man who was not dressed properly? You know they will do it to you in certain places. How about throwing acid at them if part of their thigh is showing? Can they leave the house unescorted? Can you hit your husband? Can you marry more than one man? Do you consider Muslim men to be deficient as allah thinks women are? Should two of them be required as a witness since men have hormonal problems too or didn't allah or Muhammad know that? I do feel sorry for you and will pray for you.

God Bless.

Baloney.

When was the last time men were told to wear hijab? Why are women being told they *have* to cover up to keep from being raped (which, by the way, leads to more rapes, since men use that as an excuse for their barbaric behavior)?

And the rules AS YOU STATE THEM HERE say that men have fewer restrictions than women.

Plus, the rule that they can't dress "like unbelieving men" is stupid. It's just more cultural separatist garbage.

Xian has a point, too. Every day at the grocery store, I see men wearing t-shirts and women wearing freaking burkhas.

In truth it never really crossed my mind how others dress themselves or even their beliefs as long as they do not come into conflict with mine or ask me to change my ways of serving my god, country, family. If that were ever to happen the angels would weep for any such person.
