that a depiction of cross is in their logo, would that mean they believe in the crucifixion of Christ? http://www.scientology.org/

Scientology isn't based on "science". It isn't a worship of science. It's a cult. It's an honest to goodness scamming brainwashing cult.

The depiction of the "crossed out cross" was almost certainly inspired by L. Ron Hubbard's past infatuation with the occult (Hubbard was Scientology's founder and "prophet").

Scientology is not in any way a Christian sect or denomination. In fact, Hubbard himself once scoffed at the idea of Jesus, exclaiming "the man on the cross... there was no Christ!".

Scientology is a religion not a material science.
The word comes from Latin SCIO = knowing and
LOGOS = study of.
Literally the study of knowing.
The cross as a symbol predates Christianity by thousands of years.
The Scientology cross is symbolic because it has 8 points.

These represent the 8 Dynamics or 8 parts of life thro' which each individual is striving to survive. These are urges towards existence in 8 different spheres of life:

Dynamic 1 Self
Dynamic 2 Creativity, sex, family unit, rearing of children
Dynamic 3 Groups or as a group, race, etc
Dynamic 4 All Mankind
Dynamic 5 All Life forms, including plants, animals, birds etc
Dynamic 6 Physical or Material Universe(Matter Energy Space & Time)
Dynamic 7 Spiritual Universe, spiritual beings, life source.
Dynamic 8 God, Supreme Being, the infinite,or as infinity.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Like Christianity, Scientology is not above claiming to be a continuation/relation of a previous religion. Christianity actually has little to do with Judaism, yet you hear "Judeo-Christian" all the time.

BTW, it's based on science FICTION, not science.

It was founded in 1953 by fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, just four years after he made the statement, "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is," to Lloyd Eshbach; quoted by Eshbach in Over My Shoulder. That's where he found wealth, also--Hubbard became a multi-millionaire.

Scientology has nothing at all to do with science. However its founder was a writer of science fiction and not a very good one at that.

It is not based on science... At least not on any science in the real world. My personal opinion is that they were trying to leach off the respect given to scientists in general by using that name.

No, it's based on fantasy, just like other religions. The cross is a marketing tool, just like christianity has many pagan elements used as marketing tools.
