My husband and I purchased candy bars from BJ's Wholesale club and made our own candy wrapper's on our computer. We unwrapped the candy bar, leaving the aluminum underneath and used a glue stick to keep our labels on.

DIY baby! haha. Keep in mind that if you can't eat or drink it guests will probably leave it behind or trash it so use the money somewhere usefull either as a charitable donation or to upgrade something they will enjoy like the music or the bar.
Our wedding favors are caramel apples. We are getting them from a candy/shop bakery. 1.75 each and they already come in their cellophane bags with a ribbon. All I need to do is add the name tags. Its worth it since they are doing tripple duty as favors, place cards, and table decor. Not unique but nice and tasty so who cares.
Another idea is to come up with a signature cookie for you two and let the guests take home some milk and cookies. Tell them sweet dreams and include a laminated card with the recipie on it. You can get really creative and the screwups will be the yummiest ever. I made some last week that were peanut butter, white chocolate chip, and pecan. HTB flipped over them.
Other fall options that are cheap:
Homeade jellies/preserves (or stick a custom label on some from the gorcery store and just don't tell)
Baggies of "happy trails" mix
chocolate leaves
there's a place here that sells cranberry wine we are going to have at our wedding as the signature drink. small bottles of that would make a great favor for November.
Get the little baby tera cotta pots and plant a special herb in them with a tag about why...for instance rosemary for remembrance.

Something useful in some way is always the best. No one wants a little silver heart that they'll feel guilty throwing away. Besides, you wouldn't want people to toss things that you spent a lot of time or money on.
I think the best ones are edible. :)
I like the Italian wedding idea where all the aunts or women in the family bake tons of cookies. Everyone can fill a nice bag with the ones they want on the way out.
Someone I know who got married in the fall gave everyone a caramel apple. They were in those plastic containers but she wrapped them in hot pink tissue paper and lined them up on a table by the door. That was nice.
You may hear this a lot too but maybe you should skip the favors. We are! I don't like a lot of clutter on the table and people really don't care one way or the other.

Want an honest opinion from someone who has been there? (I also got married in November!) Favors are the biggest waste of money you will ever spend on your wedding day. Honestly. Half of them weren't touched, and the ones that were touched were left at the end of the night. Only 10% of the favors I made actually went home with the guests. I'd save the money all together if I were you. I wish I had!

If it is toward the end of November, a Christmas ornament would be cute and different. You could get some of the inexpensive ball ornaments and decorate them with tulle and ribbon.
There's always the spoonful of kisses. They will be available in fall colors by then. Just put two or three in a spoon with a tag that reads: Lots of hugs and a spoonful of kisses from Jane & John, the new Mr. & Mrs. The Smiths and your date
Best of Luck

Is there a theme for the wedding ? If so go with something that ties in with the theme.. I had a Las Vegas wedding so my theme was Las Vegas I used chocolate gold foil coins as my favor wrapped in toile...
Some "generic" favors are "Two hershey kisses from the MR/MRS" in toile circles wrapped with ribbon..
Or votive candles/holders with your wedding date on them. You can get clear sticker like the one's you would use as address labels made at Staples just get clear ones and personalize w/ the wedding date/location etc...The votive's and holders any craft supply should have those.. Michael's has money saving coupons in the sunday circular...
Hope that helps.. good luck

I got married this past January, and I put hershey's kisses in a small piece of tulle and wrapped it up for favors. I attached a card to each that I made on the computer that had a saying that went along with my wedding theme. All together I think I spent aorund $30, and I got compliments on them. You could also ask people on the bulletin boards at www.theknot.com. There are a lot of great ideas on there, and people have pictures in their bios.

try favorfavor.com and favorideas.com. Great sites and you can get favors for under a $1.00 in some cases. A candle is always tasteful and a small pewter picture frame is always tasteful. My daughter bought small pewter frames for her wedding and placed an engagement photo of her and her husband inside the frame. Tied the box with a gorgeous white ribbon with little tiny white flowers and it was a great success.

At some party stores and Hallmark stores they sell weddig favors. Some that dont cost much are these cute little silver bells. People can ring them instead of throwing rice, or as well as throwing rice. There are also the bubbles that are wrapped in mesh. I would go to the party stores and see what else you can find. I know there are a lot that you can get from the internet..
here are a couple links...

Good luck.
I think Candles are a great gift.

I just went to a wedding where the favor was a small paper bag with candy and a few trivial pursuit cards. Everyone loves candy and the cards were such a great ice-breaker for a table full of people who did not know one another.
We all gave the favors two thumbs up!

The most inexpensive but tasteful and doesn't look "cheap" favor is candy. You can buy jelly belly or mints and put them in a nice little favor box (or small favor bag).
Check out the heart-shaped mints at the web site below.
