For radicals in Muslim, the dichotomy between “freedom” and “oppression” is based on whether sharia law is made supreme in the world; that is, — both Muslim and non-Muslim — lives under the mandates of Islamic law. If they do, they are considered “free”; if not, as the case is today, the mass of humanity is considered “oppressed.”
So therefore, Muslims consider themselves "oppressed" in western cultures. Is that true?

The Islamic Institute for Civil Justice was established and its mandate is to explore ways to implement Sharia law via arbitration tribunals. The current council has 50 members which includes 10 women. The Institute plans to establish arbitration tribunals across the country. The 600,000 Muslims now in Canada will then have the legal option to settle civil arbitration cases under Sharia law rather than Canadian law.

Yeah, so do Christians. In fact, every religion claims to be "oppressed" when what they really mean is "We're being prevented from oppressing others."

I was born and raised in New York. Majority of the new Muslim youth is born in Western countries. We don't believe we are oppressed at all. The dichotomy of freedom and oppression is not made distinct only through Sharia law. It is made through the tolerance Muslims receive in a western country. We can follow the Sharia without having it to be the governing law. If non-Muslims were to live under sharia, It would not make sense to me. Because the sharia law is for those who believe in abiding by the laws of Allah.

Oppression is a subjective term. Depending on who you speak with and what their background is will depend on their definition of the word. Too often, people play the victim card, despite evidence to the contrary. While there may be an underlying hostility in some communities, Muslims are free to practice their religion in the West.

You changed the Muslims you are talking about in your question. Radicals do think the world should be governed by Sharia law. Mainstream Muslims are just fine.

But most Muslims aren't radicals.
The number of hate crimes committed against Muslims is going through the roof. They are very much impressed in Western society.
Just look at some of the ignorant questions that get asked on R&S about them.

Those who actually attempt to integrate into Western culture might get a new perspective on freedom. I've known some nice Muslims who never cried oppression just because they aren't allowed to oppress women in the U.S.
Many can't see beyond their religious and cultural traditions, though.

Yes, they are accustomed to living under a theocratic government. Unfortunately for them. In my humble opinion, I think anyone not happy with the laws of our constitution should just 'mosey' on back to where they can 'obey' the laws of the mullahs.

I think those who feel oppressed should take a one way ride back to the Middle East. You don't like it here in the U.S., then get the heck out. That goes for you, too, Abdul!
