Could someone explain why a supersmart being would have to be so cryptic with beings of much lesser intelligence? it doesn't make sense to me.

because the glorious things of the God of light are not understood by the powers of darkness ... its not really cryptic at all ..

Metaphor is not cryptic. Metaphor presents concepts, the full comprehension of which is beyond the scope of human understanding, in terms that are familiar to, and manageable by the human mind, in order that we can can have some limited grasp of what the percfect, omniscient, omnipotent Creator is say to us.

The Bible is clear on its message. It's spiritual blindness that prevents people from understanding His word. You know..hard hearts, love of sin, evil, hatred of the Light.That sort of thing.
John 3:19-20
19 "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
20 "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed."

For the same reason Jesus would have to if he were here today. Its easier to make a point using something man is familiar with or can relate to.God's spirit is so complex its difficult for man to grasp. His word is not confusing ,but rather man's thought is chaotic and unorganized.

because the so called..wise men of any sort of religion..can pervert the powers.
he WHO HAS AN EAR...LET HIM/HER HEAR
AND HARKEN TO THE VOICE OF GOD.
it is GOD who call you or me..some christian witnessing forget that basic.
GOD is light, he who abide in the LIGHt
the power is there.
again..GOD is LIGHt..GOD is LOVE.GOD is truth
He who abide in these things..has tap into power the create.
satan is the source the destroy...he need a voice..a loose tongue christian...to bring a curse...OR...them spiritual alive people..and don't know it..them who are called..but yet to answer..can have a power to speak life or death..blessing or curses..poverty or riches..hell on earth..or heaven on earth...is in their tongue.
and GOD said..my people are being destroyed....because oflack of knowledge...we have a loaded machine gun..and don't know how careless we are, without words..either in speaking..or in writing..the world is created...by faith filled words..activated by GOD(light, love..truth)
