"MISCONCEPTION #2:
Islam oppresses women.

The image of the typical Muslim woman wearing the veil and forced tostay home and forbidden to drive is all too common in most peoples thoughts. Although some Muslim countries may have laws that oppress women, this should not be seen as coming from Islam. Many of these countries do not rule by any kind of Shari'ah (Islamic law) and introduce their own cultural standpoints on the issue of gender equity.

Islam on the other hand gives men and women different roles and equity between the two is laid down in the Quran and the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own right, with the right to own and dispose of her property and earnings. A marriage gift is given by the groom to the bride for her own personal use, and she keeps her own family name rather than taking her husband's.

Both men and women are expected to dress in a way that is modest and dignified. The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: "The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manner and kindest to his
wife."

Violence of any kind towards women and forcing them against their will for anything is not allowed. A Muslim marriage is a simple, legal agreement in which either partner is free to include conditions. Marriage customs thus vary widely from country to country. Divorce is not common, although it is acceptable as a last resort. According to Islam, a Muslim girl cannot be forced to marry against her will: her parents simply suggest young men they think may be suitable.

I believe you are right in that Islam does not oppress women. I have read some verses of the Qu'ran and find it to promote equality in certain ways and freedoms for people, and to think this idea was around before the 1700s, that is amazing. I also asked a similar question on Islam and the Roles of women. It was very informative. It certainly changed my idea of Islams view of women. And even though Islam is about submission it is about submission to the Divine, not other humans which is what makes it a very enlightening religion to be a part of, however i am not part of Islam I am a Pagan and proud of it but If i had to choose a Monotheistic faith from the Abrahamic tree I would choose Islam.

Yep, I did know that (in a general sense). People need to get over their hatred of religions different to their own, and be realistic about the vast majority of people who are followers of any religion. Unfortunately, many people don't bother to educate themselves on the religious practices of other religions, especially Islam, and others just refuse to. I'm not Muslim, and I never will be, but I have a reasonable understanding of what the religion is about, and others should try to keep an open mind too.

It is so wonderful that this is the case, but it does not change the very sad fact that most muslims are portrayed quite horribly in TV, film, and even the news. I am so saddened that, even if it is a select few women forced to wear a shroud and walk behind their husbands as if the were slaves, this kind of life exists for any woman...It is 2007 and every man woman and child should be free from poverty and slavery, not just those of us wealthy enough to be free.

Being a guy or woman qualified in Islamic study, i might want to describe that Muslim women absolutely everyone seems to be exempted from religious responsibilities in the time of the menstruation. This rule incredibly relieves women human beings from having to maintain the 5 each and on a daily basis prayers, fasting and different responsibilities mutually as she is contained in the uncomfortable actual situation of menstruation. How can one think of a woman being asked to quickly in this occasion? i ought to make sparkling, whether, that some human beings generalize and restrict all varieties of "prayers". The ritual prayer in Islam is named "salat" and it must be carried out 5 situations an afternoon in a undeniable way. This "salat" isn't required from women human beings for the period of their menstruation. The English be conscious "prayer" is greater time-honored than the Islamic "salat", and could incorporate different varieties of prayers like the supplication that one does any time of the day, and with no need to do the rituals of the Islamic "salat". this variety of prayers isn't prohibited for women human beings. In different words, menstruating women human beings can save praying to God, chatting with Him, praising Him, inquiring for His love and forgiveness, yet without doing it in a ritual "salat." The "submission" website isn't an Islamic website. It belongs to a sect that alter into created by "Rashad Khalifa", a Christian Egyptian who claimed that he exchange into Muslim, then made a gigantic exposure some fake discovery referred to as the "numerical miracle of the Quran". contained in a similar e book he claimed that he defined the right date of the top of the worldwide, which completely contradicts what the Quran and the Sunna carry forth. Later his certainty exchange into chanced on. He additionally claimed that the Sunnah isn't component of Islamic regulation and that we don't ought to persist with it, so because it incredibly is why his sect is thoroughly outdoors Islam. desire this makes issues sparkling. Salaam-peace.

What they do to women is sad. But what is really sad is that you support it. One thing we do know is that SOME Muslim women do not have a back-bone. What ever happened to women's rights.
