with the files there? including a setup.exe?

i mean for setting up on a fresh install, blank hard drive etc as you prob know, this was possible in windows 98, me (not 2000 prof i think)

There is an install .exe, however, it isn't called setup.exe, it's called winnt32.exe and it's located in the i386 folder. If you want to install on a machine using i386 and winnt32.exe here are the directions on how to do so.

only some applications save the install files ... its application specific ... usually its in the admins local setting temp folder if they were saved default ... oh and no xp isnt saved on the harddrive ..

You can install from the CD, if that's what you mean. Either boot the CD in your computer, or put it in while Windows is running, to upgrade.

XP does not store its cabinet files on your drive.
