I worked for a day labor on the back of a garbage truck. The city is hiring. I'm considering it as the money is good, the maggots are bad. I've seen on crime shows, cops rub something under their noses when around decomposing corpses. What do they use?

It usually just comes down to experience. You develop a tolerance for it. There is usually at least one new guy throwing up at any good crime scene. I have trained several new officers, and have seen the color leave quite a few guy's faces. You never really get used to some smells, and I have skipped plenty of meals after having to move a week old dead body.

When I go to a smelly scene like a DOA for instance, I put Mentholatum under my nose and it works pretty well. I knew a guy who sucked on a penny and said that was best, I tried it once and it did nothing for me. I almost threw up. I will agree w/ Kevin that you never really get used to the smell.
