Recently, a cat has been coming near my home. The cat goes in my yard and it meows to me. I gave it food, but he barely ate any. He's very friendly. Should I keep him? I'm not sure if he's a homeless cat or not.

I'm afraid to adopt him because he's not neutered and one of my female cats isn't spayed. I don't want her to have kittens.

I don't think he is a stray, especially if he is not Starving, and because he is very friendly. It sounds like it is probably one of your neighbors outdoor cats. And i'm sure they'd be very sad if they never saw the cat again. I know it is a tough call, you don't want to leave an abandoned cat, but you also don't want to steal a neighbors cat. But I would just let him be, he sounds like someone pet.

He's probably a visiting neighbor. The cat being that friendly and not that hungry suggests that he already has a good home. Homeless cats are usually shy, and almost always hungry. My 2 older cats (13 & 17 1/2 years old) are very willing to be friends with almost anybody.

I do hope your cat has not gone into heat at any time this homeless cat has been around, or it may be too late to spay your cat... she may be pregnant!

As for the stray, post signs in the neighborhood, contact the local shelter AND police to report a "found" cat, call local radio stations and newspapers for "lost & found"... and good luck!

If there's no response as to whose cat this stray is, it's up to you if you wish to "adopt" it. But it's best all around to get him neutered at first chance (once you decide to "adopt") OR get YOUR cat spayed ASAP!

Good Luck!

Call the SPCA and find out how much you can save on shots and spaying and neuturing on both of them. Decide if you want to spend that amount or a couple of hundred at a more convenient local vet. Visit the SPCA and see how many kittens they have up for adoption. Get your cat fixed.

its probably not if it doesnt need your food cats just adventure around the neighborhood sometimes and want attention at least thats how it was in my old neighborhood if the pack of neighborhood dogs (my two dogs and all the other neighbors dogs) didnt get to it first.

I would keep him, but put up signs that you found a cat. If the owner did lose the cat, she/he would be glad you took care of it.

If he didn't eat then he probably isn't a stray. He probably belongs to a neighbor. It's nice to have a visitor once in a while :)
