"MISCONCEPTION #1:
Muslims are violent, terrorists and/or extremists.

This is the biggest misconception in Islam, no doubt resulting from the constant stereotyping and bashing the media gives Islam. When a gunman attacks a mosque in the name of Judaism, a Catholic IRA guerrilla sets off a bomb in an urban area, or Serbian Orthodox militiamen rape and kill innocent Muslim civilians, these acts are not used to stereotype an entire faith. Never are these acts attributed to the religion of the perpetrators. Yet how many times have we heard
the words 'Islamic, Muslim fundamentalist. etc.' linked with violence.

Politics in so called "Muslim countries" may or may not have any Islamic basis. Often dictators and politicians will use the name of Islam for their own purposes. One should remember to go to the source of Islam and separate what the true religion of Islam says from what is portrayed in the media.

Islam literally means 'submission to God'
and is derived from a root word meaning 'peace'.

Islam may seem exotic or even extreme in the modern world. Perhapsthis is because religion doesn't dominate everyday life in the West, whereas Islam is considered a 'way of life' for Muslims and they make no division between secular and sacred in their lives. Like
Christianity, Islam permits fighting in self-defense, in defense of religion, or on the part of those who have been expelled forcibly from their homes. It lays down strict rules of combat which include prohibitions against harming civilians and against destroying crops, trees and livestock.

NOWHERE DOES ISLAM ENJOIN THE KILLING OF INNOCENTS.. The Quran says: "Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not
transgress limits. God does not love transgressors." (Quran 2:190) "If they seek peace, then seek you peace. And trust in God for He is the One that heareth and knoweth all things." (Quran 8:61)

War,
therefore, is the last resort, and is subject to the rigorous
conditions laid down by the sacred law. The term 'jihad' literally
means 'struggle'. Muslims believe that there are two kinds of jihad.
The other 'jihad' is the inner struggle of the soul which everyone
wages against egotistic desires for the sake of attaining inner
peace.

"Yes."

Or are you seeking validation for the various points made in your dissertation. If so, you won't get that from me and i find it odd that you'd seek it from random people. Stereotypes are common, not only within religion, but race, country, and region. Doesn't make it right.

There's no doubt that zealots exist in any religion and are not necessarily typical of that religion. Tim McVey bombed a building in the name of Christianity and that is in no way reflective of all Chritians, any more than slamming a jet airplane into a building reflects Muslim beliefs.

You can bet, however, that if any one of the anecdotal figures in your paragraph took action that resulted in the desctrucion of the World Trade Center (that's what you're driving at, after all) and the deaths of thousands, and that those particular people declared 'death to America' as an ultimate goal, there would be questions and further stereotyping of that particular belief, no matter which one was involved.

I'm glad that you have a fulfilling life. That is just awesome. I get that people, from the beginning of time, refuse to accept that their lives will someday cease. Depending upon the region, they write stories about how this just cannot be the case. Death is scary, so that's a natural reaction and always will be.

It's also ironic that the varying beliefs in loving, magic sky-wizards have resulted in so much carnage through the years.

Best of luck to you and yours.

There are perpetrators of every faith that are evil this is true. However, in this writers 50 years of existence, never have I seen so many acts of violence in the name of a religion. Screaming Allah Akbar as they fling their bomb laden body into a supermarket filled with women and children. Never have I seen a religion so insecure in its foundations that they prohibit any other religions. Like Saudi Arabia or Iran. You could not promote christianity in those countries. The penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity is DEATH in many Islamic countries.

Most importantly, I have not seen any significant Islamic moderates speaking out in the media blasting the acts of terror that occur daily. All I hear is the rhetorical "Islam is a peaceful religion" comments. I don't hear any "Osama Bin Laden is an evil terrorist that needs to be brought to justice" comments.
Sadly for you, your religion has been taken over by zealots and is being embraced by the idiots of the world.
I am very much aware that not all Muslims are terrorists. I am also very much aware that most terrorists are Muslims.

Sounds like Islam has the same problem with its radicals that Christianity is having with some of its "born again" fundamentalists. Have faith, we apply the death penalty equally, or at least try to, its our law.
If we didn't recognize not all Muslims are terrorists, we'd have nuked all the Muslim states. Eventually, maybe, we'll be able to talk peacefully again.

In stead of wasting your time trying to convince me how "peaceful" Muslim faith is, why don't you try convincing your brothers and sisters who practice terrorism in the name of Allah.

You would have better luck there, I would hope, than I would. And you would actually be accomplishing something, instead of just whining how unfair it is for you and your "peaceful" religion.

Stand up with the rest of the world and fight the terrorists, don't just sit back and try to change our opinion of the terrorists.

Is that so hard to ask? Or are you as afraid of the extremists as the rest of the world. Remeber when Denmark, had a newspaper print a cartoon? Boy, did everyone pay.. how is that simply, a Muslim defending themselves? It isn't.

No I do not believe that all Muslims are violent terrorists. But I do believe that Al Qaeda and the Taliban use Islam as an excuse to gain power and control.

Arab/Muslim nations to this day support beheadings as a form of punishment, yet expect to be recognized as civilized tollerant societies. I also have trouble trusting anyone who is taught that a dog is a "filthy beast". What about you, how do you feel about these two points?

If a Muslim does an act contrary to Islam, he or she is still a Muslim as apostasy is out of the question. Religion is the real culprit, and it has plenty of apologists already.

OH REALLY? ARE THESE MISCONCEPTIONS?

Attack on the Munich Airport, February 10, 1970: Three terrorists attacked El Al passengers in a bus at the Munich Airport with guns and grenades. One passenger was killed and 11 were injured. All three terrorists were captured by airport police. The Action Organization for the Liberation of Palestine and the Popular Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack.

Munich Olympic Massacre, September 5, 1972: Eight Palestinian "Black September" terrorists seized eleven Israeli athletes in the Olympic Village in Munich, West Germany. In a bungled rescue attempt by West German authorities, nine of the hostages and five terrorists were killed.

Attack and Hijacking at the Rome Airport, December 17, 1973: Five terrorists pulled weapons from their luggage in the terminal lounge at the Rome airport, killing two persons. They then attacked a Pan American 707 bound for Beirut and Tehran, destroying it with incendiary grenades and killing 29 persons, including 4 senior Moroccan officials and 14 American employees of ARAMCO. They then herded 5 Italian hostages into a Lufthansa airliner and killed an Italian customs agent as he tried to escape, after which they forced the pilot to fly to Beirut. After Lebanese authorities refused to let the plane land, it landed in Athens, where the terrorists demanded the release of 2 Arab terrorists. In order to make Greek authorities comply with their demands, the terrorists killed a hostage and threw his body onto the tarmac. The plane then flew to Damascus, where it stopped for two hours to obtain fuel and food. It then flew to Kuwait, where the terrorists released their hostages in return for passage to an unknown destination. The Palestine Liberation Organization disavowed the attack, and no group claimed responsibility for it.

Ambassador to Afghanistan Assassinated, February 14, 1979: Four Afghans kidnapped U.S. Ambassador Adolph Dubs in Kabul and demanded the release of various "religious figures." Dubs was killed, along with four alleged terrorists, when Afghan police stormed the hotel room where he was being held.

Iran Hostage Crisis, November 4, 1979: After President Carter agreed to admit the Shah of Iran into the US, Iranian radicals seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and took 66 American diplomats hostage. Thirteen hostages were soon released, but the remaining 53 were held until their release on January 20, 1981.

You are just a christian in a blanket! They don't know what jesus said either. Why should you be treated any better than them?
