let their kids read cinderella and snow-white and tell them about santa flying around the whole world in one night, but won't let them read harry potter?

they ALL contain "magic." what's the difference?

I'm a Christian, and I agree with you.
But maybe the difference for others would be that witches are the good guys in HP?

apparently it is fine to believe in both jesus and santa claus/father christmas, even though the latter was a creation by good ol' coke cola. what does that tell the children???
but as it does not mention 'witches, that's just fine.

but harry potter is all about witchcraft, and those with brainwashed minds who have forgotten their memories of how we all used to live, who believe all witches are like those described by grimm brothers, [employed to help subvert the previously positive image of witches so it fitted in with the views of the leaders of the witch trials], think using your imagination, asking questions, being curious and just having fun, are all evil things that will corrupt their kids' minds.
bah humbug. the potter books are great, modern version of things like enid blyton books - the famous five/magic faraway tree (now theres a question waiting..) etc.
therefore i think parents who ban their children from reading them should be given a sense of humour implant and get a grip!

blessed be

Exactly and some parents don't. I get a list every few months of what I can and can't give my nieces (the church approved list) and harry potter and Disney are both taboo. I've basically come to the conclusion that my poor nieces are going to be unimaginative zombies who spit out the same things as their parents or total hellions who are hard to control when they start to see things outside their little world. I'm rooting for option # 2.

Never seen a parent do that lol. Maybe because Santa brings presents from Jesus or something....and Snow White was a virgin. -shrug- people are odd.

Harry Potter has more hype to it.

I wonder sometimes if these people ban their children from the entire sci-fi/fantasy section of bookstores.

Sorry!

FYI
I didn't understand alot before I became a Christian, now that I am I am more aware, BUT, I let my children choose. I give them the knowledge and read the word to them, but in the end it's them that chooses which way they want to walk.
As a parent and now a Christian, I can only do the best I know how to.
I told my children that I will not apologize for doing my best, but I will continue to do the best I know how to.

There is some language used that is questionable. I'm not sure if its suitable for young children. As far as i know there is no objectionable words in the other fairy tales mentioned.
