Hi Shannon, It seems that especially at this time in your life, you need the closeness to God that you are wanting. I believe that some of the best ways to become closer to Him are through prayer, reading His written Word, the Bible and Christian friends. We are here to help other's. Jesus has ask us to be His hands and feet. Seek other Christians for support. May God bless you and draw you closer to Him. May His love, wisdom and patience become yours

I've recently started to come out of a "down time" with God. It seemed like He was so far away. But, then, I started thinking about things and realized that God wasn't far away from me, I had moved far away from Him. All it took was to start reading the Bible and I got right back on track within a couple of days. Force yourself to sit down and read. Ignore all the distractions you can. Then, before going to bed or when you have some quiet time, just talk to Him. Tell Him how you are feeling and then listen. LIsten for the still, small voice in your heart. Hear what He has to say to you.

Check out this video. THis song always helps me when I'm feeling abandoned, all alone, and if God isn't listening.

Here's the lyrics:
I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as You mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I'll praise You in this storm
And I will life my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

I am so sorry you are feeling low, King David used to ask that same question. When I feel like that I read the Psalms. David had a remarkable way of pouring his heart out to God in times of trouble. He would say, "My God why have you been far off? My enemies surround me and I am in despair!" Just reading his words I say "yeah God why? I feel like David myself! But usually at the end of the psalm he comes to understand that God is still there right beside him, and that He loves him too. Try looking at a few like Psalm 10. That makes me think "Yeah me too! Then look at Psalm 3. I will pray for you as well and hope you feel better soon.

He's always there...some days are just harder than others, and we feel like He's further away. Sometimes it's a test of our faith...I for one am glad my Salvation (or anyone else's for that matter) isn't based on feelings! Those are the days you just have to pray harder and more frequently, maybe read your favorite passages in the Bible, or listen to or watch an inspirational program. He has said He will never leave or forsake us, and He meant it. You sound like you're on the right track right now by seeking Him. You'll be in my prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your distress. You sound so sad and alone. Take courage, dear. God has not forsaken you.

Hebrews 13:5
...for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

God promises that if you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you (James 4:8). How do you draw near to God? You have to cling to His promises and pray, pray, pray. Prayer draws us to our Maker. How else to you get to know someone but by talking to them? God will comfort you, and give you hope. Read Psalms 91. It is a beautiful chapter in the Bible that gives one who is feeling alone hope and courage. Here are some more promises that God gives us:

Matthew 28:20
...And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Isaiah 30:21
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Listen for God's still, small voice speaking to your heart (1 Kings 19:12). God speaks quietly in our hearts, and you will hear Him, if you are willing to listen. Study His marvelous promises in His blessed Holy Word, the Bible, and you will hear His voice speaking to you. He loves you with an everlasting love, and there is nothing that He wants more than to surround you in His everlasting arms. Have you truly surrendered yourself to Him? Have you given Him your will, your heart, your desires, and allowed Him to begin the work of sanctification in your heart? If not, I urge you to do so, even now, for time is short. If you have, than continue to grow in Christ by spending time with Him. Surrender yourself daily at the feet of Jesus through prayer and Bible study. This is how you become closer to God.
I'll be praying for you, God bless!!!!

When those things happen, I usually have anchors of faith that I rely on. Its those times in my past when the Lord was so evident in my life that I knew He was there.

I have ppl that I talk to when hard times hit and I read His Word.

God promises to never leave us. Why we get weak and think He isn't there is us. Everyone goes through what you are going through, find a good Christian friend and talk to them. Have them pray with you also.

Also I pray and talk with him. Tell him about your day or about something funny you saw etc.. Reading the scriptures also helps me.

It is just in your head...God is no closer or farther than any other time. God is the closest thing.

You feel alone because you isolate yourself - it is a imaginary isolation you think up in your mind. Remember God is there and open yourself to feeling God's presense. Be receptive to His guidance. Quiet the mind so you can hear Him.

Maybe you're being tested to see if you'll stay in the bad times as well as the good.
You can draw closer to him through worship.
Lift your hands and seek him with all of your heart.
He promised us that when we would do that, that he would be found.
God Bless you, hold on to your faith!

His word is right there, in the bible. Remember it is not our "feelings" that determine if God is there or not. His word says, I will never leave nor forsake you. Don't go by your feelings, go by what He has said. Read Psalms. It will calm you and give you the peace you seek.
