there's many different types of lung cancers: adenocarcinoma, mesothelioma, carcinoid, squamous cell carcinoma. it could also be metastatic, meaning that the original cancer was from elsewhere and spread to the lungs.

The type of cancer would be a carcinoma. There are several different types of lung cancers like Bronchogenic carcinoma, oat cell carcinoma, are the two that come to mind. A carcinoma is a cancer of epithelial tissues.
