I want to make it so that I can mute my browser. I do not want to mute the entire computer. I just don't like ad that make noise and such. Can I do this?

On Vista, a new Volume Control will appear in the Volume mixer (you will have to right click to get it) that will adjust the volume for the browser. I don't believe this is true of XP, and I don't know how long the muting would stay effective (probably only until you restarted the browser; I've never tried).

You may be able to find an alternative Volume mixer that has the same functionality for XP.

Try just blocking the adds with a pop up blocker, there is no way to mute your browser without turning the sound down on other programs.

IDK what browser you're using, but there should be something under "Tools" and "Internet options" that gives you an option to play sounds on pages or not...
