Initially, I would go to the gym after work to avoid rush hour traffic (I live in Los Angeles and have a 26 mile commute).
Then I started seeing results, so that was an even bigger motivator.
Saturdays is a fun class so I go first thing in the morning, before I can make excuses.
Sundays are running at the beach...that's motivation in itself!

1- It's great to feel healthy and fit. I want to live to be 100 years old and I don't think that's in the cards if I sit on my *** everyday.
2- I feel and look better from going to the gym. I'm not vain, but like any normal person, I care about my appearance and know that it affects me in nearly every aspect of my day. It's also great for self-esteem. Has anyone ever told you, "Man, you've got a great body!" I'm not going to lie...it's a nice thing to hear.
3- I'm competitive and if I'm not directly competing with someone, then I'll compete with myself. That means making goals for myself and achieving them. I'll change workouts every few months until I accomplish my goal. For example, back in January I decided I wanted to shed body fat and become more fit and toned, so I lost 20 lbs from this rugged workout. Now I want to keep the fat off and build about 10-15 lbs of muscle before the summer ends. There's no way I'm reaching this goal unless I go to the gym at least 5 days a week, so there's my motivation right there.
At the end of the day, I always tell myself when I'm teetering back and forth between going and not going, what exactly am I going to do for an hour that makes it worth my not going to the gym? Since I've already designated that time beforehand, the answer is simple...nothing. And alas, I get up off my *** and just go.

This may sound really bad, but when I see obese people with excess fat hanging out of the sides of their shirts and their ankles meshing with their feet it makes me think that it could happen to me and I get the motivation to go to the gym.

I miss the high and the pump when I don't work out.
I like what I see when I look in the mirror.
I have not been at this level of fitness for years. (Too much party time!) It feels good to be healthy again.
My girlfriend likes the results as well.

I feel better about myself when I work out. I notice that when I look better, I feel better, and have a better outlook on life. It's about attitude, exercise releases endorphins, the feel-good chemical.
My clothes fit better, too.
