Are you sure you can afford a dog? There is more to owning a dog than buying dog food. Good quality dog food is not cheap but worth the cost.
Vet bills can get very expensive. Puppies need shots right from the beginning. You need to buy collars and leashes. You need the time to train. Not only to housebreak but a lab needs training and room to run.
If you can afford a puppy, check the ads in your local paper or visit the local rescue organization and save a pet.

ok, calm down. First of all, the romance of want is fine however, labs require a lot of work, involvement, exercise and a good amount of training. Are you ready to deal with this plus the financial aspects of vet care on a yearly basis for about 15 + years? Call around to some lab breeders in your area, check the newspaper for breeders and just make some calm phone calls. This is nothing to rush into and you really need to consider if this is actually the correct breed for you and if you do end up with a mix, what other breed you'll be dealing with. Good luck!

Try going to your local animal shelter. They might have what you are looking for or you might find another puppy that you can't live without that needs a home as well. We have a dog that we got from the pound in 1999 and he is the best dog we have ever owned.

Look in the newspaper. There you can find all sorts of ads about people trying to sell their dogs. But be careful, if a dog is unbelievable cheap, or even free, there might be something wrong with it. If there is any health problems with it, it could mean spending hundreds of dollars on vet bills. Make sure it is healthy with a good personality before buying!!! We got our dog cheap when we saw an ad in the paper, and we love her!!!!!!

Hope this helps!!!

Go to your local SPCA/animal shelter. Look in newspapers, call a few vet offices - sometimes people who can't keep their dogs anymore let the vet know so they can help find a new home for them. Good Luck in finding your lab.

Are you kidding? why .. if you can't afford it then why are you getting it? it is like having a kid... but don't think of doing that instead of the dog. Why not save your money and you want the best you can get... due to over-breeding and the problems you could have by getting a dog under those circumstances. Do your homework ask around and when you have the money to get the best dog you will be happy you did so.

You can check at the pound, or you local shelter, but if you cant affored a dog from a breeder you shouldnt be getting one anyways. They cost over 1000.00 a year in vet bills, food, toys, etc. Think about it before you adopt or buy. Plus, you dont know the history on the animal before they ended up in the shelter, they could be sick, which cost even more money.

I suggest that you adopt one. Labs are a very common breed, so it wouldn't take long to find one. Adopting fees are way lower than prices at Petco. Try Petfinder.com. Millions of perfectly awesome, but homeless dogs. Save a life too!
