On EWTN mass was 2 hrs long and people had feather hats, like from robinhood days i suppose..... who are they and why feather hats?

They were probably Knights of Columbus. K of C is a Catholic fraternal organization for men.
The link below has a photo of some Knights meeting with President Bush. They are wearing their formal dress (the feather hats) in the photo.

I didnt see this mornings Mass on t.v. so I really don't know. Were they the Swiss guards for the Pope?
