I'm creating an invoice with formatting. I want the borders I have added to show when the document is opened, but for the unbordered cells to be invisible to another person opening the document. Is this possible? If so, how do I do it?

If it is possible to hide the entire rows or column without losing any data you want, then this can be done.
But if you have unbordered cells here & there, then it is difficult. Do the following if you can hide entire rows or columns
With all the rows and columns visible, go to
View - Cutome Views - Add - Then type a name

Then hide the rows and columns you dont want others to see.

Again go to
View - Cutome Views - Add - Then type a name

Now by selecting any of saved views, you can switch between the two formats. (View - Cutome Views - Show)

If you think others will unhide the rows & columns you have hidden, then protect the worksheet ( Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet) But before protecting sheet, make sure you are in the right view (for others)

A bit more detail, set the fill color to white for the all the cells in the worksheet, (use Ctrl-A to select all cells) then put a border on the cells you want to show borders.

This will make the gridlines invisible when the spreadsheet is opened. The cells will remain visible.

a document can not be viewed two different ways by two different users.
the only exception to that would be to create a master and then a sub doc calling out each cell from the master -change the formatting in the sub doc...you would lock the master and they could only view the sub doc...

other than that wysiwyg

good luck
