Someome who has cancer and is undergoing treatment is not just fighting for their life--they're having to undergo a treatment that makes then very sick. So whiel they know there's a good chance the chemo could cure them, it's going to make them sick while it kills all the cancer cells.

Think about when you get sick (say from an ear and throat infection) and you're running a high fever. The doctor gives you an antibiotic to get rid of the infection, but for a couple days the medicine makes you feel really bad--upset stomach, diarrhea, fever, feeling weak. Then after a couple days you begin to feel normal again! That's what it's like when you're on chemo, only the treatment stretches over several months to a year, so it's really tough being sweet and nice when you feel like crap, day after day. The hope is that when the treatment is all done, they'll be able to get back to normal.

Chemo makes you feel tired, nauseous, etc.....

It is an sometimes an effort to wake up in the mornings.

The medications have nasty side effects, the drugs they give you to stop the side effects have side effects ......

You have needles stuck in you to deliver the drugs, and they are straped in place for hours at a time. Your veins don't like this and so they collapse and they have to keep sticking them in new veins and they hurt!

And while you are feeling the worst you have ever felt in your life, you are expected to maintain a positive attitude to help fight a disease that you know could kill you.

All these medications cost money, the specialists cost money and you feel too exhausted and ill to work, so you are constantly concerned about finances......

It is hard!!!!!!!!!!

And it can take YEARS for your body to recover from the toxins they have pumped into your body, after you have stopped taking medications, which may continue for years after the actual chemotherapy is over.

We have a right to be grumpy occasionally!
