unfortunately, all private loans are credit based. if you don't have good enough credit to get it on your own, you would need to have a co-signer with good credit. they also have VERY high interest rates in comparison to federal loans so you wouldnt want to take out much that way anyway. are you a dependent student? if so, have your parents apply for a parent plus loan. when they are denied, you would automatically be considered independent for the purpose of obtaining loans. that would give you more eligibility for federal stafford loans, who are given without a credit check. be sure to talk to your financial aid office to be sure they are able to do this, though, as some schools will not do so.

if you're already independent, you are maxed out with federal loans. apply for scholarships at http://fastweb.com/ and http://finaid.org/. also ask your financial aid office if your school offers scholarships for students in need. look to your local vfw or similar organizations to see if they are able to assist. some offer scholarships as well.

The CORRECT answer is.............. you probably wont be able to get a private loan without a cosignor if your credit is shot. Thats a fact. If you are dependent, your parent can apply for a PLUS loan. If they are denied, you can get an unsub stafford. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE INDEPENDENT!!!! It is a standard reg.
