I asked this as a retorical question . . . and thought I should ask the general YA population:

What sort of person would choose a relationship with a mythological person out of fear of going to his made up hell for not believing in him?

The kind of person who thinks drowning, Plaguing, and slaughtering millions (more than Hitler), conspiring to have one's own kid brutally beaten and executed, and repeatedly commanding his followers to hurt and kill thousands of other people, are 'good', 'moral', or 'loving'.

Dear Truth-seeking Friend,

God loves each and every Human, no matter how foolish their beliefs are ! There is no literal "hell"; only a minority of Christians now still believe that falsehood --45% I think I read; 50 years ago it was about 80% probably. As a Theologian and Evangelist I have taught the real meaning of the Bible words for "hell"

Sheol is gravesite for the richer Jews
Gehenna is garbage dump for the poorer Jews and criminals
For sanitation purposes, gehenna was frequently burned.

If any of our more simple Christians do believe in hell and pray to God, that is far better than an atheist or agnostic that never believes nor prays nor worships God.

There are TWO Persons you can never run away from:
GOD and your higher soul Self (in this life at least)
Be now the True son or daughter of God in Jesus that
YOU ARE !

Peace and progress,
Brother Dave, a Jesusonian

I wouldn't.

Although I have heard "Spare the rod, spoil the child".

A man beats his wife, kids, dogs whatever, to teach them right because he loves them. They don't leave and that love he professes is mythological.

Why do people get worried when creditors call? That whole system is mythological too. I challenged them one time and said, yep...I have no money so take court action...they didn't.

Possibly, the answer to your question is ignorance?

I believe in G, but I do not believe out of fear.

I wouldn't know what kind of person would do that out of fear of hell, but for me I worship and love the "Creator" of all.
If you choses to call that a "Higher Power", God, Buddha or a door knob, He's still a "Higher Power" of all of us. But I worship out of love and gratitude and with faith and hope. Hell to me is being without that.

Perhaps one who does believe that there is a Hell and has no other reason to believe God. I don't know what that is like. I am not one of them.

A 'mythological person' is another story. How do you know that there is no Hell, and that there is no God unless you can show that you know everything?

So you asked this rhetorically and don't want an answer. I for one don't base the choice of my relationship with God on fear of hell, but I base it on the Love my creator has for me.

One who is afraid of hell and believes the message of the Person who taught the message is true. What type of person mocks another for his belief?

You cannot understand why we love God like we do. You cannot even come close to understanding what Jesus has done for us. You have no idea what having the Holy Spirit to guide you feels like. So how can you possibly understand that we have no fear in our relationship with God other than the awe we experience when we worship Him.

The kind that actually fears going to the fictitious place and figures he'd better be safe than sorry.

Start with faith, but if you lack faith you'll never the less have to agree with TRUTH. I mean if you say you won't fall because there is no gravity you will never theless fall when you jump whether you want to believe it or not.

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.
