A light colored carpet will definitely show the dirt. A neutral toned berber will go with anything and you can use smaller throw rugs to perk up the beige that you don't want. When my daughter was a teenager she wanted black, but since she didn't like to vacuum, I told her that black would show all her cat's hair. She ended up with a varigated medium and dark blue that I now am having a problem decorating around. (Although it did conceal the nail polish that she spilled on it better than a beige color would have!)
If you match a wall color or choose a wild color, you will be limited for redecorating later. Some berbers have multi-colored flecks in them that a wall color will pick up, but that is still pretty much a beige carpet.
There are some funky commercial-grade carpet colors that I have seen at the Home Depot store; they are quite wild and maybe not the relaxing look you want, though. Best bet is to go look at the samples and fall in love with something. Or maybe a Pergo-like floor instead with throw rugs?
Good luck!

Green and purple seem to be really popular lately, you see it in all the ads for teen rooms.
For calming, definately a midnight blue-ish carpet with maybe a lighter blue (like a sky color) for the walls? My sister had that and it always made me feel calm when I was little.

I personally think blue (carpet) and yellow (wall) would look great together, but I'm not sure if that'd be calming or not.

Just remember, don't do anything to crazy or what you might regret in the future! I did that once, and it sucked!

okay i have a coler carpet thats purple.(i used to,at least :'(
so if you want relaxing colers, find some of this at home depot.
if you do this, you should have crimson walls.its a nice coler, but at the same time its not a wild crazy coler that sticks out like a sore thumb.when you get drapes, add a dash of coler to the room by buying dark blue or red(or,maybe white)curtains.
get a bed spread that is a little silky, and has designs on it,but not characters from a t.v show.you can pick a lamp that has a perfectly white shade,or whatever coler you buy the curtains in.you can put in a blue, pink,or just plain white light bulb in your room to add some coler.get a plain bookshelf and make in different colers.one board can be maroon, one blue, another white, and maybe one pink.whatever you want.
if you really really want it to be in ALL relaxing colers, you could get blue or red saran wrap and wrap the inside of the windows with it,so you get a blue or red shade when the light comes in. get a light fixture that has a fan.theres nothing more non-relaxing then hanging out in a hot room.get a light that is your style.do they have one with wooden leaves as the fan, while you are obsessed with nature?if you want it and can afford it,give yourself a treat and get it!

hope this helped you!

sincerely,Elizabeth

"Cool" colors for bedrooms:
pink walls, burgundy carpet
mint green walls, emerald green carpet
sky or powder blue walls, sapphire carpet
lavender walls, plum carpet
soft white walls, medium gray carpet
The gray would go with other colors if you get tired of the walls...
Add some mirrors and paintings, posters or photos in frames or same color and material - brass or chrome, oak or walnut, enamels.
Put a potted plant, candles, and family/friend/vacation photos around the room.
Don't forget extra throw pillows for bed, etc. - especially when friends come over.

Blue and brown are very popular right now. I recently decided to go with a dark brown Espresso colored carpet with dark Espresso colored trim in the room and light soft sky blue walls for my daughter.

For the window treatments I hung long Espresso velvet curtains and with sheer white panels hanging behind them.

I even incorporated a few strands of white Christmas lights (w/ white wiring) hanging down from the main rod but behind a sheer white curtain. At night it looks very cafe' like, very relaxing.

I used wrought iron furniture and a daybed instead of a traditional queen/ full bed so it is more like a couch for her friends to visit.

My color pallet was The Blackest Bean (which is brown), Sky Blue & Bright White

If you choose a Berber carpet, you can get them with flecks but one main color. A darker blue is a cool color and the flecks could be your accent colors. At worse...have you considered a plain blue (too dark or too light shows up everything!) and buying a cool multi-color area rug? That can look well to.

If you are sporty light blues and green, If you are preppy, Light pinks and purples, like lavender. Or else very light peachy orange, with a light shade of baby blue would look good too. I hope this helps!
