My employer has cut my hours from 40 to 28 hours. But they have not cut any of my duties and still expect the same amount of work to be done. Is this legal? What can I do about it?

Yes, they can. I remember something like this happening to my best friend when he started out. In my best friend's case, they wanted to cut the basis income so they wouldn't have to pay much for unemployment. My advice is that you should use any extra time to send out resumes and get some interviews. You really need to get out of dodge. Going after a prior employer is sometimes very risky. Think its better to just leave for greener pastures.

I can't imagine that it would be illegal. You have a couple choices to make. You can stay and make the most of it, you can search for a new job or you can talk to your employer and see if they will either increase your hours again or trim the responsibilities.

They can expect anything they want. You should refuse to do the work, document every problem you have. Let them fire you and file a complaint, and sue them with the Depart of Human Rights..they usually govern the labor disputes. Check with your State. And they will pay to defend you as well!
