Because it says so in the Bible, right next to the part about not touching pigs and how to stone your disobedient kids.

It's not a matter of mocking. Certain Christians feel that if they can have passed into law the things that they believe is the truth, then the country will be by their definition moral. Well, this country was founded on freedom. I am a Christian vet who fought for EVERYONE to have their freedom. Freedom means that if a person believes a certain way, and if that way is contrary to what I believe, it's not up to me to tell them that they're wrong. Being a Christian means to be Christ Like. When Jesus was on the earth, he judged the religious leaders of the day, not the people. He LOVED the people... What I believe that I need to do as a Christian is to live an example of love. If a question ever arises (and has), about what I believe, I say what I believe and NEVER force it upon the person who is doing the asking. That person leaves the conversation feeling accepted and not condemned. That is how a successful Christian leaves his / her mark upon the World. Leaving it BETTER and not WORSE. I could keep on this topic, but I will stop and see what you all think. God bless!

Aww, I'm a Christian and I don't think it's neccessary or nice the way gays are so often treated. I don't have much else to say because it's all been said on both sides. I just want to apologize for all the hateful, hurtful, unChristlike things Christianity has done... It's a huge, huge problem. It spans centuries. As one person, I can't fix it, but I'm extremely sorry. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Our nation's in a pretty bad state, isn't it?

While it is true that every human being has certain, unalienable rights, it is also true that marriage is for a man and a woman, not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Therefore, you cannot state that it is a homosexual person's right to become married to someone of the same sex- and most certainly because there is a law stating that gay marriage is not to be condoned. Nobody is mocking gays here. If we were mocking gays, the girl Christians would be loving up on girl Christians and whatnot. I do not support gay marriage because it IS wrong. The Bible says it is wrong. However, that does not stop me from loving a person who is gay. Other people think that Christians are horrible people, but we really aren't. They think that we are stuck up and that we hate everyone when that is not true!!

Why do Atheists feel its so neccessary to mock Christians by trying to pass laws restricting our Rights?
Unfortunately homosexulaity is a sin. Does this mean Gay people are bad...Not at all they are great people...I have gay friends and family members..However, if a hetero couple who chose not to get married cannot recieve the same benefits that a married hetero couple have...then why should a gay couple who do not wish to have a commitment ceremony/marriage recieve those rights. If laws are going to be passed then they need to be passed for everyone, not just gay couples. Frankly, it is nothing personal against gay people.. Plus its not always Christians who are the ones making the laws, there are plenty of Conservative non-Christians as well...we just get blamed for everything that people don't like.
Plus how is that considered mocking gays? Is it not our Constitutional Right to oppose what we do not believe in as Americans- that goes for Atheists, Gays, Christians...whomever. We live in a country that we can express our opinions freely...however, they are trying to pass a law that will not allow pastors to speak out against homosexuality, or abortion...and not allowing them to read/preach out of specific chapters in the Bible....I personally think that, that is a violation of our First Amendment Right to Freedom of Speech..If they are going to limit the Bible and what can be read out of it...what great books are next? So frankly I think people are mocked by everyone no matter what their beliefs or sexual orientation may be, people are scared of what is different...Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists...everyone is nervous about everyone else, because people want to live how they want without the other group encroaching their personal beliefs on them..

Some Christians do that, but not all of them. I am a Christian, and I'm not interested in promoting homophobia in any way whatsoever. There are several gay-friendly churches in my area, and ministers who march at gay rights parades year after year to publicly demonstrate that they're against anti-gay legislation, so don't think that all Christians are homophobic, because it's simply not the case.

I'm catholic and I don't think there is any need for laws- people are going to do what they want anyway. I've said this before and its my own belief- I do think people can be born gay but as a catholic I feel they should not act on their urges just like someone predisposed to alcoholism should avoid beer and bars. Then there would be no need for laws. I know a lot of Christians are judgemental and hypocrites but don't do what you hate and make generalizations about them, either.

Why do Christians think it's necessary to mock pedophiles by restricting their rights? Why do Christians mock unwed mothers by voting against abortion? Why do Christians think adultery is a sin? Why do Christians think murder is a sin? Why do Christians repent when they sin?
Because God says so.

Exqueeze me, but it's not just Christians on that soap box! I, personally, don't care a whit about the subject, but you can't put that all on Christians. I'm more than happy to take responsibility for some things, but not this one! N o W a y ! !

I am a Christian, and I am trying to prevent laws restricting gay rights. I would consider myself an anomaly, except that I am working with other Christians to accomplish this goal.
