How do I keep my five month old poodle from running everytime the door opens? We take him by the collar to his tie-out but if he gets past you he'll run out the door. If he get's out he runs everywhere in the yard and makes a game of running circles around you and barking. He let's you get within arms length then runs away. How do we teach him not to do this?

Have his leash hanging by the door. Teach him to sit at the door, put the leash on, then open the door. Teach him to come when called.

Set him up to fail. Put him on a very long lead then open the door and say sit. When he runs and reaches the end of the lead pull him back and scold him. After a few times he should stay put. Reward him for staying and you should be set. When he forgets do it again.
