Trying to get a job in Europe can be as challenging as an European to get a job here. You have to apply and find a job that will grant you a work visa. You can't just show up in an European country and ask for any job. The question you have to answer is: do you have any degree or experience in a certain field that you could apply to certain jobs in Europe, where they will grant you a work visa?
It is easier to apply for a student visa, as long as you are a student.

I am an American who lives in Eastern Europe 6 months a year. I wish I could tell you something to help but I don't really know much since I don't work here. I suppose it depends on which country you want to go to and what skills you have.I know my older sister moved to England inthe early 1970's and married and Englishman and had to wait 6 months for a work permit. So I would check it out with the embassy of the country you wish to live in before leaving home. There are many Americans living and working in Europe for American companies who have sent them here.I.E. banks,IBM,ect.

I actually have family who are living in England for a year because of my uncle's job and it doesn't seem to hard at all. I don't know any specifics but when I went to visit them it seemed that people were well receptive. I think that people in Europe can distinguish between a government that they may disagree with and the people that live there.

I imagine it would be very hard, having all those Europeans laughing at you for coming from a country that would elect George W. Bush not once, but twice.
