10 years ago champ car was indy car, known as the ppg indy car series, a mix of road and oval races, and was a genuie rival to formula 1, so much so that formula 1 greats like nigel mansel, emerson fitipaldi, mario andretti and others were comming over to the states to race, fitipaldi even convinced gille deferan to pass on f1 carrear to come to indy car,

then toney george decided to open a new all oval racing indy car series, the IRL, ppg indy car became the FedEx champ car world series, because they split the fan base (and the amount of money to be made) both series had to become spec series, meaning the league decided what the car and engine are going to be,

irl is an spec (lower cost) oval racer that some times tries to race on road courses,

champ car is a spec (lower cost) road racing circuit that has abandoned oval racing all togeather, and is now a good placefor f1 has-beens and never-will-bes

f1 is the top of the game now days, teams are given a set of rules and build a car within thoes rules themselves, f1 is all road racing, each race takes place in a diffrent country, though most teams are based in england, on any given race there are (roughly) 860 million fans watching world wide,

teams in the two indy car series run a season for about 20 million us dollars or so where as in f1 the lower teams run around 35 - 50 million and the top teams are running 400-450 million for a season because of this f1 demands the best tallent around

Both champ car and indy operate at a far lower financial level than F1. This means that the teams in F1 are able to build cars that sport much more advanced technology with traction control, launch control, telementry, seven speed synchronized gearboxes, and engines that rev to 19000 rpm. This makes it harder on the driver and also takes away a degree of rawness that still exist in the other two. Because the budgets are so much higher the competition is also a lot tougher, it is not really a fair comparison. F1 is in a different league. This does not mean that champ car and indy are not difficult, just different.

Formula 1 has to be the most difficult. Being the best driver in the best car at the right time and winning races is very difficult. Many world class drivers fail miserably in this series. Formula 1 has the most money, the most high tech cars, and the smallest margin for error. No, it is not always so exciting to watch.
