by intolerant I mean stringent Islamic based laws on personal affairs (Islamic based marriage and divorce laws; Saudi Arabia sexist laws; laws interfering in the private life; intolerance of homosexuality and "pagan religions") As an atheist, what about separation of church from state; freedom from religion?

The "majority of people there are Muslims" argument is unsatisfactory. If minorities came into the West in the 1920s, Christian, nuclear family age - would that justify a Christian theocracy?

NQV, yes there may be some religious minorities (ie. Egypt: Muslim (mostly Sunni) 90%, Coptic 9%, other Christian 1% ) in muslim countries; however; does that justify imposing Sharia and Islamic based laws?

Are Islamic republics justified over democratic forms of governments, with laws passed on by democratically representative governments? Shouldn't laws be based on "natural rights" enscribed in the constitution as opposed to a selected religion? What about minorities?

Religious minorities can get by living (instead of dying) in a religious dictatorship, but you haven't shown that the laws themselves are just or morally or constitutionally should be allowed to reign.

To hello, you've said Saudi is beautiful, but you haven't justified having an Islamic republic or the mora justification of it, nor proved why it is better than having a democratic government, nor provided any evidence.
A Nazi can just as well go "I lived in Nazi Germany and it was beautiful." (No evidence, no moral justification, no real arguments)

NQV, you've asserted that I've made "falsehoods" yet you fail to mention what lies, you've claimed that I've constructed.

People want the cake and eat it too. Everything is justified as long as it stays within the boundaries of an individuals personnel beliefs. I think any organized religion is a bad thing.

You seem to forget that Muslims ruled vast regions of the World and many faiths including Judaism and Christianity flourished in all parts of the Muslim empire. For hundreds of years Muslims ruled India and the majority of Indians are non-Muslims. It is crazy to say that Muslims did not tolerate people or they are intolerant.

Saudi Arabia is an exception in my view. No one ever wanted to live there in any case as the desert was harsh and Saudis were relatively poor until the oil wealth of any significance came starting in the fifties and blossoming big time in the seventies. Until then most Saudis lived on the handouts of the pilgrims. Most Christians or Jews did not care to live like that.

If not, most Muslim countries, almost all 55 of them have large Christian and Jewish majorities until most of the Jewish people left for Israel in 1948. Before 1948 all Muslim nations had large Jewish minorities who are called the Sephardic Jews.

So, it is wrong for you to allocate falsehoods. In contrast from the time of Ferdinand and Isabelle took over Spain, in 1492, Muslims and Jews were actively persecuted, burnt at the stake and otherwise suppressed in almost all of Europe and Christian West. Find out the facts.

I hope this makes sense.
