A LAV is - or was when I was in a light armored vehicle. They are used in a lot of different units. It could be anything from a close air support vehicle to a field ambulance to an engineering vehicle. So depends on the MOS of the people driving and riding in it.

If we are talking about the original LAV, the infantry carrier, they are probably mechanized infantry. Armor would almost never get an LAV. However, the many variations could be used in armor (LAV-AD [air defense], for instance.)
I believe the LAV is a Marine vehicle, isn't it?

if you are a member of a crew of an armoured vehicle, meaning you are assigned a specific task in the effective operation of your unit, then you belong to the cavalry, however, if such a machine is equipped to carry troops, for the purposes of safe transportation and protection from enemy fire prior to disembarking, then you belong to the armoured infantry, meaning troops that dismount their vehicle and engage the enemy with hand held weapons such as rifles
