I have watched a few documantaries on the history and Pbs channels that discussed about John and his book. The experts in question mentioned that John suffered froma mental illness, and he was describing in his book events that happened in his own times , HIS FEAR, AND PATHOLOGICAL ILLNESS made him histerical in describing those events already happened. Historians and other experts were also warning us that if people actually believe in those things as events that have yet to come, they might make them happen AS A SELF FULLFILLING PROPHESY.

I wanted to watch those videos again, but I DO NOT REMEBER THE TITLE, does anyone know? I really want to buy those dvd's, and educate some of my friends that believe that crap.
thanks

Hey, I watched that too! Was it the one where they said that the number of the Antichrist was 666 and that the roman Emperor, Nero, was in power at the time. The numerical equivalent to Nero's name was 666 and that is where the origin of 666 came from. If it was also the documentary that said that people always think evil rulers in their world of today are the Antichrist, and that John was trying to bring hope to his suffering countrymen to hang in there, for they would be saved and avenged. I am sorry I can't recall but I think it was on the History Channel. If you find the answer, let me know, or I will keep up with this thread, either way.

I think this was the same show that talked about Darby, some guy who made up the Rapture, and that there is actually no reference to the Rapture anywhere in the Bible, only cryptic snatches of an idea of it maybe...

Fascinating isn't it? Don't even get me started on Constantine and St. Augustine! :-)

By the way, I have nothing against the Christian faith whatsoever, actually, I am fascinated with its History, and learning any views of it offered for a balanced source of information.

Wow, that is a great idea. I think that television shows should always be used as unbiased teachers concerning faiths. You're soooo smart for thinking this through and realizing that what ever the boob tube preaches is the gospel truth. Well done!

Where is the proof that John had a mental illness? It's easy to say something about a person when they are dead. Who's to say you don't have a mental illness? (I'm not saying you do. But people could spread it around as a rumor.)

PBS and the history channel? are you kidding me? those outlets are notoriously ANTI-christian. they are totally biased. programs like that are a dime a dozen and they love to get all these eggheads on there spouting off their speculation and conjecture with THEIR spin on it. They never have any opposing arguments or views. Of course you think it was brilliant...you already buy into that crap hook, line, and sinker!! There's never any proof!

come now, it's far more likely john was hungry while in exile, and came across some shrooms! mental illness? they can't prove that.
