A used car dealer can possibly be started using jump leads.

Sounds like you better start researching or go back to school. This doesn't sound like a very well-thought-out plan.

For instance, can you live on no income for say, six months if the car market flops? Do you have enough money to buy suitable office and parking space (a made-over gas station won't do the job!)?

I think if used car dealers knew the answers to your questions up there, there wouldn't be any dealerships going out of business. But nobody knows. Cars sell and they don't. You don't have any control. Are you ready to get sink your life savings into something like that?

Maybe start with wholesale first. Going to the auctions, bidding on units, or going to new car stores and bidding on their trades. Consigning your cars and see how this side works first, then faze into retail. Times are really hard right now, and unless you have some sort of foundation it will be very hard, but I'm sure you can do it! You will need to apply for a dealer license, and California requires a class. Go to www.dmv.ca.gov ; forms ; vehicle industry ; occupational licensing. Well wishes on your endeavor!!

Do you know anything about cars? Can you do mechanical work? Can you valet them to make them attractive to potential purchasers?

Should you advertise? I think that if you didn't, you're pretty much dead in the water.

It's a cut throat business out there and I know that I'm going to get the 'thumbs down', but unless you know your stuff you're doomed.

Good luck
